When this started for me, I had headaches all the time. Upon waking, would come on suddenly throughout the day for no particular reason.

They started as "liquid" headaches. For example, if I was lying down on my left side when waking, that's where the headache would be. If I rolled over to the right, I could feel the headache "pour" across the head to the other side. It was bizarre.

After a month they morphed into one-sided headaches, mostly on the left. They didn't pound nor throb. The best way I can describe it, is if you had a can of that spray foam that hardens up, and you sprayed it exactly into one side of the head, that was the pain. It would fill up like a balloon on one side, and stay solid. Again, very strange. Never had headaches like that before.

Now almost one year later, thank God, for the past month they are less frequent, less severe (in general, an occasional bad one), a little more "normal" (a little pounding, not always on one side--more like tension headaches). With that, I hope I haven't jinxed it :(

How about you?

I have had chronic migraines off and on for about 9 years now. It hits the top of my head when it happens, sometimes like a spike or a drill straight down, sometimes like my skull is on fire. I found that cutting down on sugar and refined grains in my diet helped reduce the migraines from every day to maybe once a month.

About half a year before I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, my migraines became chronic again. I've had bad reactions to each of the medications they tried on me, so the neurologist suggested I try butterbur (an herb). Luckily it worked (happy dance :)) and I am back to the occasional migraine.

Butterbur, wow, never heard of it. But I'm going to keep that on the list in case my headaches start up again. I think the occasional CoQ10 I've been taking has helped, but I never really know, but another member said that her specialist recommends it for her migraines.

I've started to get headache that wake me up out of a sleep.these I'm told are rare.but there soooo painful I wake up.

@forgetmenot: I had those types of headaches frequently for about 5-6months. I don't know if they are rare, but sometimes they are dangerous (could mean brain is not getting enough oxygen). So you do want to mention it to your doctor. I thank God that I don't have them that often now; last time it happened to me it felt like I got kicked in back of the head. I'm usually pretty groggy when those headaches happen, so I image it does have something to do with oxygen. Not that MY doctors care, but hopefully yours will take it seriously.
