Hi girls. I am almost 56 but still having periods. I missed a couple this summer for the first time in 44 years but they have come back.

As you all know from all my posts my fibro is off the scale daily for months and i am struggling with stress.

I am weepy as i am in so much pain...got the extra bonus of facial /throat/ jaw pain today and can barely swallow or speak again.

Have any of you found a big increase in symptoms as the menopause approaches.

I know i am quite old to be just starting this process...haha in fact i thought maybe i was invincible and somehow was only 45 not 55...you know how you feel young in your head even though your pain is saying you are 95!

Any advice welcome.

I am sorry I have nothing to add in regards to what you are asking. I just want you to know that I stopped and prayed for you. I truly hope you have better days ahead.

I've got the coil. So I'm always bleeding on and off ,but better then I was. I'm 43 and always getting hot flushes .inalways feel crap before I come on.
I tell u won't man do t no how easy they got it.

Willow,
I went through peri-menopause for about 20 years and then finally my periods stopped for a couple of years. Yay! But then a few months ago I had a fair amount of old blood on the t.p. Poop! Now I have to start all over. In my GYN's eyes, I haven't completed menopause until I've gone 2 years without a period and blood on t.p. counts as a period.
Anyway, I think the swing or shift in hormones is what triggered my Fibro. I researched it some and found some documentation that supports my theory. Probably all of the stress I had at work triggered some of my other autoimmune diseases too. I developed Ulcerative Colitis while teaching the students in my Behavior Conduct Disorder classroom. It was awful and kind of funny to look back on now. I had gas soooooooo bad and I would often stay late to catch up on my paperwork. I figure no one is around so I just let 'em fly - LAD's Loud and Deadly. It was pretty much continuous and I guess I should have shut my door. duhhhhh Anyway, the janitor heard these gawd awful farts and looked in my room. When he saw me, he was so surprised. How could a skinny, sweet lookin' gal be bustin' out sounds like a flat tuba? I was so embarrassed at the time but now I think it's kinda hilarious. lmbo
I hope you all were able to get a chuckle out of my story to start your day.
Best wishes for a good day!

Cheryl Ann you do make me laugh....funnily enough (or not) i am getting gastric problems too.....all flaring in the last few months. Gosh I hope this is not another long term problem.

Maybe it is a hormone shift along with all my stresses that has changed my fibro. I have liked being a girl and am a very girly girl but this pain and feeling generally unwell for so long ...well i would like to borrow someone elses body to get around in for a while...in fact i probably wouldn't give it back!

I hear ya on that one. If we have a zombie apocalypse we would probably want to keep our own body though. LOL I have no idea where I was going with that. Let's just call it a Happy Halloween thought! :D

Just add the gastric issues to the list of things you need to talk to your doctor about, eh?

Hi! I'm a new member. I realize that this thread is not new, but I hope you get to see this "Willow".
I was 59 years old when I had my last period. My OBGYN in that last year before I finally stopped tested my hormone levels. My estrogen levels were off the chart high. She said...."not for a woman my age, but for a woman period." Then my periods stopped, and a year or so later when I was having uncomfortable symptoms, my GP tested them again, and all hormones were in the sub-basement. How's that for a hit to all bodily symptoms?
Anyway, I believe that is exactly the cause of my fibro symptoms. I haven't found a doctor who'll pin my symptoms on that. Problem is that since I have breast cancer in my family, no doctor will even consider HRT. And so I suffer. For 8 years I have suffered. I now plan to go to a functional medicine Doctor who I hope will adjust some of my body systems enough to change the course of my remaining years.
I hope this was helpful, and that we all manage to get to a point where life doesn't suck on a daily basis.

thanks Paris for giving this thread your time...my mum too had breast cancer twice......stage 4 the first time and 2 the second so HRt is not considered good for me either.

Since I was about 52 friends (especially my sons girlfriends ) don't expect me to still have periods at this age but for me is still the norm as most people seem to experience symptoms in late 40,s and its all over in early 50's.

Hey Ho...whether it is causing my fibro to do this i guess i will never know.

Welcome Paris nice to meet you.

Thanks so much Willow.
Nice to meet you too. :)
Btw...I just now re-read my previous post, and what I intended to say was...."How's that for a hit to all bodily systems." (not symptoms)

Hmmmmm. ..you gals all have me thinking. I just turned 46, my periods are still very regular. Now, is menopause supposed to be happening soon? What are the precursor signs I should be looking for?

I think you would know Nexi and some people sail through the menopause with little problem. I don't want you to get worried because of this thread.

I dont get hot flushes but lots of people do and you can get drier skin and mood swings...generally feeling not so good....but how would you know when we get all that with fibro anyway.Ha Ha.

You can get a blood test to check hormone levels if you are concerned or just want to know if you are in the peri menopause .

Huh, not worried just hadn't thought about it. Too busy trying to deal with what I have already lol! I guess my doctor will check for this every year when I get my physical eh? Even though I really think that it is hilarious bothering to get a physical considering how many times I am poked and proded through out the year.

Nexi...it's not to do with this thread but i just looked to see how far north you are and WOW i know so little about that part of the world and what life there is like .the seasons....how you cope with the cold...heating ...getting around etc.

It would be so nice like i said before if there was a general chat part to this site for those who were interested.

Oh Willow, so sorry your going to have to deal with severe fibro and menapause at the same time. I started M early (35) and finished early (46) I had not even thought about woman having to deal with both. I have considered myself lucky not to have to experience what the monthly cramps would feel like with fibro. I to became severe, it was an ENT that sent me to a reumotolgist because I couldn't swallow. I (I say I because it is my experience) found hormones can affect everything, if you are already stressed and weepy this could be crucial to your physical and mental health. I was fortunate to have a naturopathic dr. that got me through. If you have the resources it might be a good idea to go beyond the basic testing and get with specialist that digs deep quickly. Hopefully one of the benefits to starting later in life is it will be quick. I am just curious do you have allodinya also? Have you been diagnosed with sic a syndrom? The medication for that has helped the "knott" in my throte a little and chewing peppermint gum when I can stand chewing or sucking a peppermint candy also helps me.what have you found that helps? Gentle hugs coming your way.

Monthly cramps I don't even find that bad compared to the body wide fibro pin, back pain, and other issues. I wish I could have the days back when I only had the cramps. I am speaking just for me Eyes up.

Willow we can use Whatsapp, the only issue we will have is exchanging phone numbers. Moderators won't let us.
