Hello
Im hoping someone understands these strange symtoms i have. I was diagnosed in Feb 2014 with fibro, I have numbness at the top of my thighs where my pelvis and thigh meet as well as washboard (thats the only way i can describe it)thigh muscles that are extremely painful. I have seen a rheumatoligist and he didnt give me any information or knowledge of fibro, all he said was "My diagnosis is Fibromyalgia". I have lost my career in law inforcement due to the lack of mobility and numbness and pain in my hands, forearms and elbows. Does anyone else experience "washboard muscles" when they run their hands done their outer thighs?
Thanks
Karey

Karey,
Yes, I understand what you are referring to. I had this as well as a very weak streak across the top of my thighs between my knees and my hips. This causes me to have balance problems, as well as, time that my legs just give out on me and cause me to fall. The washboard feeling is caused by tight tense muscles that refuse to relax. Can you get your doctor to refer you to physical therapy or could you find someone who can give you massages. The way to make the legs feel better is to have someone (massage) lightly at first then harder push the flat of their hand up the sides then the backs of your legs. This hurts like hell, but it also helps to relax the muscle tissues and improve strength and reduce or stop the pain. I went to physical therapy and it did wonders for my legs. Remember the massage must go up the sides of your legs, not down. That is what works. At PT they would have other muscle relaxation machines to help. But a good massage therapist can do it as well.

Other people say warm baths in epson salts helps to relieve sore painful muscles. Also swimming or just relaxing in a heated pool can help. Some members are on muscle relaxation medications. I am sure more members will add to this and give more information.

By the way welcome to the forum. Ask more questions and offer your thoughts throughout the forum. :)

Thank you so much! I appreciate all your advise, i will try the massage. Im so happy to hear that im not alone in experiencing such painful and strange symptoms and thank you again for your reply.

i have had similar issues for years. massage does help tremendously. i can't afford to go as often as i need to so i was taught by a therapist at the specialist's office how to do self massage with a therapy ball. with her help, i learned how to do pretty well a whole body massage that brings relief until able to go for professional massage. ask your doctor or massage therapist about this technique (i'm sorry that i don't know what it is specifically called)

My issues started many years ago with soreness after doing minor yard work and fatigue. I have been under doctor's care for 2 years with them trying to figure out what it was. I have had muscle biopsies, blood work and even MRI of legs. The doctor finally gave up and thought it did fit Fibro because all tests were negative for anything else. I have not been a believer of this diagnosis but in reading some of the comments in this forum, maybe I have to concede and agree that it is possible that this is what I have. I have the leg issues mentioned her in this string but I have to say that massages do not work for me. I used to use Icy Hot and this no longer works but the pain, tenderness and fatigue is more pronounced since December.

I got a massage a couple of months ago and it did nothing but if it works for others, I would definitely recommend. The suggestion for self-massage is a good one and I have also been considering electrical pulse stimulation machine to reduce pain and keep my muscle stimulated.
