I have been suspecting fibro for the past 7 months but my regular doctor was brushing me off. i finaly saw a specialist and was diagnosed 2 days ago. He started me on 10mg of Flexiril a day and reccomended some light exorcise. i would like to get into some sort of water activitiy but its hard finding a open pool in my area in the winter. so i think im gunna start walking, at least before the snow comes. he said i could still use the elliptical but 20 mins is a bit to strenuous. which i cant really handle anyway.
im really hoping the muscle relaxor helps or even if we have to up the dosage im hoping it does something i am in constant horrible pain and acheyness and miesry because of it and i am so tired and drained because of my pain. all i want to do is lay in bed but even when i am laying in bed i am still in pain. the only good thing is i have a boyfriend who loves to give me massages!
i do wish i was given some sort of pain killer for the pain but the docter said the muscle relaxor should help ease the pain ..i wonder how long it will take, has anyone had experiance with flexiril for fibro?

also lately i have been SO foggy and forgetful and ditzy and having trouble talking..its so horrible and embarassing :(

Hi idlehour and welcome! I myself was recently diagnosed with fibro and can relate to how you are feeling. I unfortunately don't have any advice for you on the drug flexiril as I am not taking any medications at this time, I am too scared of the side effects as new drugs always seem to cause reactions with me. I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone and I can understand what you are going through and know how hard it is. The aches and pains are definitely not fun and I also deal with almost daily nausea and stomach issues which I hate even more than the aches and pains! Hang in there hun, do what you need to do and just do the best you can:)

Hiya Hun. Well i never had that drug but I've had a few relaxers . And they work straight away. Well make u feel alittle tired or spaced out till your body used to them. U have to ask yourself do I want painkillers for years or struggle on without. Yes they help big time but they just hide the fibro for a few hours. I no only take paracetamol and codeine or the odd tramadol before bed if I hurt real bad.
Most us us use pain killers but it's really up the the person involved .
I jo the less I move the worse I get. So even when I don't want to move I just have to.xxx

thanks for the replies :) the flexeril wasnt working after a week of working slightly. so i switched over to orphenadrine er 2x a day which made me REALLY wonky and not able to be alert at work. but it helps with the pain SO MUCH its like a god send. i have to go back to my dr in 2 weeks to update him. im hoping however he can give me a pain killer like tramadol or hydrocodone because that stuff helps alot but doesnt make me wonky so i can still function at work. because i cant take the orphenadrine all the time like he wants me to because i need to be alert at my job. but when i dont take it the pain is so unbarable. im learning new ways to get around things and what sets my pain off the most and im just trying to absorb everything i can about this illness. its nice to have a place to come to where theres people who udertstand and have support! <3

Can u not have a lower dose of orphenadrine.its worth asking.
Tramadol with paracetamol is great for pain I use it , as other codin based drug don't help a lot for me. A word of warning tramadol is a ***** to get off of if u had it a long time, but if your not planning on stopping it any time soon go for it, if it helps u stay at work u. Got nothing to lose. I no if I didn't take it I'd be in bed.
