Default how much does stress affect fibro

Hi glad I found this site I have been lurking over the last week. I have been under a lot of stress lately and hurt tremendously, do they go hand in hand. I'm usually a very positive person and with a smile I can get through the day. That has changed lately to the point of maybe asking for depression meds. in the last four monthes i have had pnuemonia twice June and now(last leg of it) between those monthes I was hospitalized with acute diverticulitis and kidney stones (at the same time), now my immune system is so low. I guess what i'm trying to find out is why I'm hurting this much.

I have always hurt it took me 5 years just to go to doctor, thought because I had always worked in very physical environments that I was just falling apart faster than most (not very realistic was I ) After I decided to go to doctor it took 6 specialist before I actually found one that gave me a diagnosis and my response was "what is that?" I had never heard of it. So on top of everything else I have been trying to learn more.

A mother of five and grandmother of 8 stress has always been a part of my life. So I don't understand why i'm hurting consistantly and more pain.

Welcome to this forum. We understand how depressed you are for all of us have had to deal with the pain and fatigue, and some have found some relief, but others such as yourself are fighting the depression caused by pain that never ends. Some of the time this pain is caused by not getting enough good quality sleep. I found fibro to gave me the princess and the pea effect. You know that children's story about how she could feel the pea even though she was laying on a big stack of mattresses. She could not get comfortable. In that way many of us suffer with hips and legs, that will not relax and hurt no matter what side we lay on.

I had a regular mattress, then got a pillow-topped one, then switched to a waterbed, of which the warmth felt good but I was always stuck in the side holes or laying sideways when my partner got into bed. So I finally bought a fiber bed pad. It was like instant relief as it was soft, yet supportive. Like sleeping on a cloud. If you can not find one or afford one, try putting a thick comforter under neath your sheets, on top of the mattress. The extra cushioning can improve your sleep and help you wake up refreshed.

The depression is harder to handle. Some of us try starting new hobbies like crochet or knitting, working jigsaw puzzles, taking slow nature walks, reading books, watching funny movies, helping elderly friends and neighbors, music, etc.. anything that takes your mind off the pain and loneliness for a few hours a day. I am not at all ruling out medication. If you need it then get it. Counselling is of great benifit too. Just having someone local who you can confide in and who can give you advice without being judgemental is wonderful.

There are many different symptoms with fibro and lots of members here can answer questions about medications and other ways to deal with pain issues. I hope you will join in and answer other peoples questions as well. I really do hope that this forum can be another life-line for you and that you will learn many new coping skills on this forum. See you around...

Hello and welcome.
I have just recently been under a lot of stress..I'm in more pain( I also came off of meds) I had a complete body malfunction.muscle tremors (arms) loss of balance complete freeze up of leg muscles ( couldn't stand) that was the worst I've been..I had been getting hives for a day or two but ignored the warning signs not that I could have done much..the extreme pain lasted about 5/6 hours and the tremors and muscle dysfunction was only 2/3 hrs.
I guess every situation is different and our bodies react differently..hope this sort of helped. Being so busy ( kids grand kids) do you take time for yourself to just stop and relax? You are dealing with a lot (diagnosis)
