Hi everyone. My name is Lorraine Marie. I'm 22 and from PR. I was diagnosed when I was a teen. At first my doctor suspected arthritis. My first pediatric specialist said it was all in my mind because I didn't fit the criteria for arthritis. I had to see a psychologist that said I was fine. My second opinion said that the pain was because of my weight (I was overweight, now I'm considered obese). It took many doctor visits and about 2 years to finally be diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

Hi Lorraine.
My name is Brian. I understand where you are coming from. Some doctors are so closed minded that cant open their eyes and see a person in pain. We have all heard from someone that it was all in our head. I heard that from my step grandmother. That upset me. Ive also heard that my issues are from my weight. Same grandmother also. Lol. I am 24 now, I was diagnosed when I was 21. It has turn my life upside down. But what doesnt kill us makes us stronger. If you ever need to talk to someone, feel free to message me. Talking about it does help some what. Glad you joined, now you have a caring support group.

Hi Lorraine, welcome to the forum. I can't believe that they sent you to a psychologist. How can anyone say that your pain is all in your mind?
That sort of statement would leave a lot of people who are already suffering in a desolate state. Since when does one have to "prove" one's pain?
In any case, I am glad that you finally know what you are dealing with, and how you can treat it. That is a big step forward.

I was a teenager. This doctor the first time I saw her scared me talking about lupus and without doing any tests she was almost sure that's what I had. So after the tests were all negative she said in a very strong tone to my parents, in front of me, that I was probably lying for attention or to get out of school or because I was depressed. She said there was nothing she could do and refused to give me any pain medication. I was super stressed and sometimes when I'm stressed or very anxious I cry. So on the doctors office I couldn't contain my tears when she said she couldn't do anything and that I was faking it. She saw the tears as proof that I was unstable (she said this to my parents with me out of the room) and needed a psychologist. The psychologist said I was completely normal. He already knew me a little bit since he's been my brothers doctor for years. My brother has mild autism, what before was called Asperger.

yep. been there too. told to see a psychiatrist who said i was mentally healthy. fired that doctor. i wrote to someone else in this forum and i've said it to others a million times. find a doctor - i don't care what kind - it could be a freakin dentist - but find a doctor that understands and believes in your pain and struggles and DON'T LET GO! it's great if you can find one that can look at the results of tests and such from your other docs and treat you. i had a rheumatologist find that i had a severe vitamin d deficiency and do NOTHING about it. I had to call to get the results. I had the labwork sent to the doctor i trust and he wrote the vitamin d prescription to bring my levels up. i haven't had contact with that rheumatologist since the original appointment. presumably she just forgot all about me.

YOU MUST TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR HEALTH. DON'T LET THE DOCTORS DECIDE THAT YOU WILL BE A VICTIM.
