Day 37

Last week on the 10th of March, I had my first eye surgery. One down and one to go. Having cataract surgery is not an easy time, it is painful and makes touching the area around the eye nearly impossible. Thus for a week you must wear a plastic shield held on by sticky tape that's residue sticks with you long after the shield is no longer needed, as well as, after scrubbing the face several times.
However, the most interesting part is before the surgery, when you get several different tests performed on your eyes to decide which lens is best for you and the size needed, as well as, health of your eyes and countless other exams to insure they know every possible thing about your eyes.
The day of the surgery I was taken into a room that had several people laying on stretchers in hospital gowns with blue caps on their heads and blue paper covers on their shoes. I thought to myself all we need is toe tags. They got me dressed in the same garb and then started putting eye drops in my eyes every ten minutes. I was laying on a hard stretcher with a pillow tucked behind my knees and my lower back and hips were screaming for relief. At one point a man came up to my side and said they would be taking me in soon, and as an after thought said, in ten minutes. My back was yelling take us now! But things moved along slowly and soon I received a gel drop in my eye that burned like fire. Then I was taken to the operating room. All this time you are required to keep your eyes closed, which is easy cause every time I had them open I was getting another dreaded eye drop. As we came into the operating room my eyes were flooded with a beautiful yellow color and when I mentioned it they said, ' your seeing yellow?'
On to the surgery, which starts with them wrapping your face with paper surgical cloth, of which I said I know now how a Christmas package feels. then my eyes were wide open and all I saw was white, then three holes in that white, then the holes were bigger and then my vision was clear. It was amazing.
I was taken to another room and put on a very comfortable chair and given apple juice and graham crackers. I must warn you to either refuse the food or ask for a pill to prevent nausea, or you will feel very sick halfway home and might even vomit. After I ate and felt a bit better, I got dressed and we left to go home. And as nausea set in and we turned off the heat in favor of cold air with me feeling very ill.
Upon arrival at home I went straight to bed and tried not to move until my stomach settled down and then I went to sleep. The next few days I did very little until slowly I was able to move around and remember not to touch my eye. Tonight the pain is less and now I have three weeks until my second eye must suffer the same fate.
I can not say it affected my fibro, but my body has been extra sore in my hips and lower back since the surgery. And that folks is how cataract surgery is done.

Comments

I am happy to hear that your first surgery is done. Get well soon and good luck with your second surgery.
God bless:smile:

Thanks for your comment. The next surgery is in three weeks. It is still tender and painful to touch, I am hoping it heals up soon. :)

How are you doing now?

My left eye is improving daily. It is still a bit sore but does not bother me as much. I am having my right eye done on Tuesday April 28th. I will be glad when it is all over and also glad I only have two eyes. lol
It is a necessary part of life being able to see well and that is the only reason to go through the operation. This sounds like a pity party, don't it. Ha!
Thanks for asking. I will let you know how this next one goes. sorry I missed your message. :)

All is well and I can see distances very well, but I still need glasses for small print.
