Day 41

Well it has been awhile since I updated my blog and decided to share with you what I have been up too.
At first after mom was gone I tried spending more time away from home enjoying the great outdoors before bad weather set in. Then I started cleaning house again trying to get more things in order in case we had to sell the house. But my brother had a better plan for me and he turned the house over to me so I am the proud owner of a old house with major fix-ups needed.

The fix-ups include painting and flooring, new window curtain rods and wallpaper. But it is paid for and I don't have rent on top of utilities. I am hoping to find some part time work to help cover some of the expenses, but don't know what to do. I do know I am not good at math so any job that involves handling money is out. And with fibro, doing housecleaning jobs is out. But I am hoping something will fall into place this Spring.

In other news I have started a new way of eating. I have always eaten more veggies and fruit then meat and thought I felt better but I was also gaining weight which was hard on my muscles and pain levels. Recently a good friend introduced me to the low carb diet. This is not the Atkins diet, in fact it is more like a diabetic diet. If you you want to learn more you can go to youtube and check out low-carb diet, as well as, recipes.

I have stopped eating bread, rice, flour items, sweets made from regular flour & sugar, no corn or potatoes or reg or diet sodas. The first part of the dietary changes is to really back off on these items, as well as, some veggies and all fruit for 10-14 days. This gets your body into feeding off it's fat stores for energy instead of using blood sugar as a source of energy.

So what have I been eating; eggs, meat, butter, veggies, some fruit, making things with almond flour, using steivia, bacon, cheese, almond milk, flax seed, coconut flour & oil, and olive oil. You want a bit higher fat intake but don't go over board.

In the beginning it is hard because your body wants all that sugar and starch. I hated giving up pasta and bread, but as time goes on I can look at donuts and candy bars without craving them.

Simply put think of having your hamburger with no bun. All the toppings including cheese with no bread. Not so bad. How about poached eggs cooked in butter with bacon on the side or sausage, again no toast. No juice, but you can have coffee or tea decaf only or ice water with lemon. I have salads with chicken or tuna or chef salad all with olive oil and vinegar dressing. Cheese love it.

So I have been doing this for two weeks now and I feel better. Still I have a ways to go to lose weight but my friend has lost over 25 pounds and I hope to lose 30.
Snacks can be a bit different but you can be creative such as drinking mugs chicken or beef bouillon to keep your salt levels up as well as, to reduce sugar cravings. I also drink tea and almond milk, lots of water, and eat carrots w/french onion dip, cucumbers, slim jims or jerky, and a small amount of fruit like a tangerine. I like my vitamin C. But remember fruits are mostly sugar as well so eat in moderation.

It is important to check your urine for protein loss. So ask at your drugstore for urine test strips for ketones. Another way is to use a glucometer to check for blood ketones and blood glucose. If your diabetic your all ready aware of this method. In testing you don't want to meter in the darker areas of the strip. Your ketone loss should not get above 3.0. If the strip shows your in the darker areas of the meter colors this means your very dehydrated and that can be very dangerous. It is important to stay in the middle not to be on the high end of color strip. Anyways this is what I am trying in a effort to lose some weight and see if my fibro improves.

I will keep you all updated on whether it works or not. And also any side effects to watch out for. Thanks for reading along and hope this post helps someone else who is struggling to feel better.
