I'm just curious, I was very overweight myself, and that made the pain even worse... I suddenly started to suffer from hip pain as well! I was just 21!

Today while checking the forum I wondered how many people over here are overweight and how many have a healthy weight. I'm not ashamed to admit that some years ago I used to weigh 238 lbs, fortunately I'm now down to 160 lbs! I will not stop until I reach my 132 lbs goal.

I must admit that the pain in general have decreased ever since I lost all that weight. My knees and legs still give me some trouble, but the extra weight was making it even harder.
I'm so glad I lost all that weight, I'll make sure to never go that far again :(

How many of you are overweight right now? How many of you were overweight in the past? Do you feel better after losing all that weight? Are you in less pain now?

I'm overweight now and have been for quite a few years..I don't eat a lot of food but manage to keep the weight on
Congratulations in your weight loss....please tell us how you did it

I have been overweight in the past. Not very overweight but moderately. I had more pain then, I will admit it. It really taxes your body to carry that extra weight. I've been trying to make the transition to natural sugars instead of artificial. My new vegan diet has allowed me to lose weight. I used to weigh around 175 and now I'm down to 145. I have a very slight frame so 175 pounds is too much for me to bear.

I used to be overweight, actually morbidly obese! I was almost 260 lbs at five foot six. I got down to 117, but evened out at about 140-150. I'm not pregnant, so I don't really notice a change in the pain, but when I was smaller I did! It definitely does less damage on your joints. I think it depends on where you hold your weight, too. I held my weight in my stomach, so it effected my back a lot. I bet if someone holds it in their thighs, it would effect their knees more, and so on and so forth.

Thanks :) I actually lost weight by counting calories, the physical pain was too much so it wasn't possible to exercise, but I managed to lose a lot weight by just counting calories and doing portion control. After that I started walking :) First it was 2 days a week, then 5... and now I'm able to do cardio and circuit training workouts for 25-30 minutes 5 days a week. The pain is still there, but it's much less! Sometimes my neck and back bother me while I workout, but I just ignore them!

Now it's harder for me to lose weight, so watching what I eat is no longer enough, and that's why I workout 5 days a week, 3 would be enough, but I like to push myself a little. I'll keep doing that for as long as I can!

Best of luck to you! I hope I helped you somehow by telling you how I lost all that extra weight. I actually have a before and after picture, but I feel kinda shy to show it over here for everyone on the internet to see, lol. It's nice to look at it in private tho!

Congrats on your weight loss!

When I was first diagnosed with fibro I was actually pretty skinny. I actually gained weight and got quite big. I've recently lost about 40 pounds, and sadly it's not making a difference for me. It's a little discouraging, actually. I lost weight and got diagnosed with high blood pressure AFTER I had lost weight. That's not the way it's supposed to go.

Sorry to hear that, DeeDee, I'm dealing with a hormonal issue (chronic) and so far losing weight hasn't helped me so much, but I try to remind myslef that maybe because I haven't lost all the weight I should have lost. By the way, losing 40 pounds is quite impressing :) Do you still have to lose more weight, or you have already reached your goal? Because a few extra pounds can make a huge diference, specially if you still have some belly fat (I do - not much but still!) because that belly fat might be responsible for producing extra cortisol :s

I was not over weight when diagnosed and my weight has not changed much since. Rheumy said I wasn't the typical mold for Fm. I thought that was very rude. We all have our own 'normal'. I never went back.
I do agree that carrying extra weight probably does make it worse and feel for those who struggle with it.

Congrats on your pregnancy :) Also congrats on losing all that weight! Pregnancy is responsible for a lot aches, it's even worse when you have fibro, trust me! The most strange thing about my body, is the fact I didn't look as fat as I should! Right now I've been told I look lighter (when I tell them what my current weight is). But I know I haven't reached my goal yet,

You're so right, that was kinda rude to say! I'd not have gone back either. But the rudeness of some doctors doesn't surprise me anymore, I've met so many rude doctors in my life. So it's even more surprising for me when they behave professionally. I have an appointment with a dermatologist that has no tact... totally tactless, and heartless. After giving me a really nasty diagnoses she acted like I was a crying baby!

My exact thoughts, carrying extra weight around must have consequences, I mean that's the most logic thing! I just wanted to ask out of curiosity :) I know a lot people on this forum is in a lot pain, I wondered how many of them were over weight. Actually I'm still a bit overweight, because 160 is still a lot for someone with my body frame and height (5'8). I'm not supposed to be carrying around belly fat, so I must lose a lot weight to start seeing results :/

I would personally like to lose another 20 to 30 pounds. If I was younger, I would probably want to lose more. At my age, I don't need to be a size 6 anymore. I'm tall too, and that makes a difference.

Just very annoying that I lost all that weight and then I got high blood pressure. The cardiologist told me that some people just have an "on switch" at a certain age.

I know what you mean :( When you lose weight you should actually be getting only good and positive reuslts, not something like high blood pressure. My mom suffers from that and has to take medication for that everyday :( She's very overweight tho, and has high cholesterol levels... but she doesn't take care of what she eats. To be honest watching what you eat so carefully nowadays is so hard, but it's always good to avoid things high in sodium and processed foods :)
