I don't know if this has been asked or not, but I'm just curious as to what age everyone was diagnosed? I was diagnosed when I was 32 years old. I was told by my Doctor that symptoms and onset generally started when someone was in "early middle age".

I'm just curious if this is a common theme or not. At what age were you diagnosed or started having symptoms that were diagnosed as fibro?

I suspect I have been suffering from fibro since I was a teen, I saw several specialists who agreed I had no arthritis... but there wasn't a reason for my pain! They all thought I was crazy, and back then I didn't even know what fibromyalgia was! Lucky me! Back then I didn't know the kind of impact PCOS would have later in my life either! I was finally diagnosed back in 2011, but up until this day I live a bit in denial. I'm still having a hard time trying to believe this is the case, mostly because my symptoms aren't so bad... there are many good days too :) By the way, I was just 24 when I was first diagnosed.

See, I hear these stories as well. In fact, when I was sent to Georgetown University, the head of the Rheumatology told me something completely different than what that doctor above told me. He said that many people have symptoms and a general feeling of malaise for years before diagnosis. He said that sometimes people don't notice it or disregarded it, or they have what happened to you, where they complain of symptoms but are often slouched off.

May I add that I was told when I was 19 that there was nothing wrong with my back and in my early 30s, surprise, I had an abnormal MRI. I now have moderate arthritis in my lower back and my spinal column is actually narrowing. Interesting how that worked out, huh?

I was diagnosed when I was 29. My doctor said I had symptoms... saddest day of my life. I can live with it though since I am so used to it now.

Hi all, I was "officially" diagnosed in 2009 at the age of 44. I know I have been suffering many years earlier than that. It took many doctors and many tests to finally have a diagnose

I was diagnosed at 41. Just wondering if we all looked back how many of us had some symptoms years before..now that I'm really starting to question when all this started I would have to say it was wiyh my second pregnancy...lots of knee and hip pain( was told it was arthritis) I always put my aches up to what I did for a living(physical labour. Moving up to 50 pds of potatoes) or standing all day also worked in a meat plant so more heavy lifting..but I have no arthritis now....I had a hysterectomy 10 years ago and was back to work in 2 weeks. Again potatoes...I was in a car accident when I was in my second pregnancy( someone ran a stop sign and t boned me). I'm just thinking could that have been my start?

I remember being in my 20s and telling my doctors that I just never really felt good and they would just tell me I'm young, or that the blood work was fine. Looking back, I'm pretty sure that it was the start. If I go by what they said at Georgetown University, then that happens often. The signs are there, but are disregarded.

I had many health problems in my early 20's, strange and weird pains that my doctor could not explain, (which I think was the begining of my fibro) and so I was told I was just depressed. I was not depressed, I was mad at my doctor for falling back to the old stand-by of thinking women were silly when they had health complaints. Then I was finally diagnosised with fibro at 35 years of age, but most of my doctors did not believe in fibro at that time. So life was hard over the years dealing with the symptoms and rude doctors, until I was rediagnosised at age 57. So that ends my age of diagnosis tale. lol :)

I was diagnosed when I was 48 but I had been not feeling myself since my early forties, after I had my third child at the tender age of 42....lol. She was actually born 11 days short of my 43rd birthday. When I look back now, I just kept thinking my body is never going to recover from this and the fatigue and muscle pain started getting worse with time. Then at 48 I had my first of 8 sinus surgeries, the last one was Feb of this year, and all the stress from the surgeries has made my fibro much more debilitating. Catliz

Totally off subject, but how was it having a baby when you were 42? I had my one and only at 34 ( I was two months shy of 35), and I'm cautiously contemplating another at 37. My grandmother had my uncle when she was in her early 40s as well. I'm just curious about how the experience was in general? I'm worried because I don't have the most stellar health and I already know I would be high risk.

Interesting about the illnesses. I have heard that sometimes there is an event, like a major illness, that causes a full blown manifestation of symptoms. This did indeed happen to me, and from that point I never fully recuperated. I don't know if it's true or just another thing you hear. I know sometimes correlation isn't causation.

I actually had a great pregnancy, usual stuff but no complications and worked full-time up to a month before I had her. I really felt great. My grandmother had her last child at 45 and oh another thing, I had no problem conceiving. Normal delivery too. And I enjoyed her so much as being older I was much more relaxed. I didn't have perfect health before I got pregnant as I've been an asthmatic all my life and did get a lot of bronchitis and sinus infections. So it can be done, but it is harder on the body, however my daughter has been such a gift, I wouldn't change a thing.

I know, it is interesting about the illnesses. Now that I have been really thinking about it, stress is a huge factor for me. I guess stress on my body from the pregnancy and then 4 years ago, I had had 2 surgeries, lost my mom suddenly, lost my job and then my husband and I separated unfortunately, all in the span of one year. I realize that my symptoms and flare ups became much worse and have continued to become much more debilitating since then. I can't work anymore because I don't know what I will feel like from one day to the next. Sorry for rambling on....I think I more than answered your question, lol. Catliz

Reading posts in this forum I've noticed that a lot of us are strong minded people and we are also not the " princess's or princes " people think we are we all seemed to be stressed over active people..I haven't read one post that said ..oh I lived a pampered life before fibro..it seems to be affecting hard working people...is it possible it hits us cause we have done to much to our brains/bodies over the years and our first signs of problems we ignored and kept going?
How many of you are emotional but keep it bottled inside? I said I wasn't emotional but I guess I kinda am just not in front of everyone...I'm th strong one the rock the one people always go to for help.....sound familiar ?
