I was recently diagnosed with Fibro, then soon after was told I had extreme hypermobility in my joints (basically just means a wider range of joint movement than most people). My rheumotologist gave me some interesting website articles to check out that link Fibromyalgia and Hypermobility. I have always been extremely flexible and am double-jointed in my hands, shoulders etc. Never thought it had anything to do with my constant muscle pain and other symptoms, but I'm beginning to suspect that it might. I'd be curious to hear if anyone else has hypermobility and fibro

Have any of your Dr's looked in to ehlers-danlos syndrome? I'm not sure what your range of symptoms are in regards to fibro, but if you haven't heard of it, I recommend researching it... If some of it sounds similar, ask your Dr.

I don't have hypermobility per se but I was diagnosed with loose ligaments and heard that loose ligaments and fibro go hand in hand. This has caused me to hyperextend even when just regularly walking and has put so much strain on my joints I have tendinitis in a couple of them.

I was advised I, too, have hypermobility, katie-opny. That's was my initial visit with my Rheumatologist. He had me bend my thumb all the way down to my arm. He also checked my stance as I stood straight. The back of my knees extend outward. He did a few more exams to determine that I am hypermobile. I think that does have a lot to do with Fibromyalgia as well as torn ligaments and sprains. I, right now, have been diagnosed with sprain in ACL and my PCL in my left knee. I don't have insurance to go and have the other knee checked, but it is giving me the same problem. So I am sure I have the same issues with it. What were those websites that your Rheumy gave you? I would love to do more research on it myself. Thanks.

If you google 'fibromyalgia and hypermoblity' you'll find alot of stuff on it. It's pretty clear, though, that there still are no absolute conclusions on the link between the two conditions, and the research still seems to be in it's infancy. But my pain seems to be directly associated with my overly flexible joints. I have the most muscle pain where the ligaments attach to the joints, which was what my Rheumy noticed. Anyway, hope you are able to get to the bottom of what's causing your symptoms.

I have not heard of that. I will make sure that I look in to it.
