Has anybody gone though a pregnancy after being diagnosis with Fibromyalgia? We are wanting to have a baby but, I'm afraid because of my fibromyalgia. At this moment it is not controlled by medications so I' already suffering. I'm still young and want to have a child, did anyone pain increased during pregnancy. Did any new symptoms arise?

This is going to be a tough one for anyone to answer. I've read so much about this to help my friends who had the same question.

Okay, the reason I say it's going to be tough to answer is because it's one of those "different for everyone" issue. I have spoken with people who have said it made their pain so much worse (possibly because they needed to stop their meds during pregnancy)... *but* I've also heard more than one person say that their symptoms lessened or didn't change while pregnant.

The irony, of course, is that no one knows which way they'd go with it until actually getting pregnant. :-? It may come down to a decision on whether or not becoming a parent is worth those 9 months of possibly worse pain levels while remembering that it may not change the pain level in your case at all.

Thank you for your reply, I know the end result would be wonderful but I'm really scared. I have had some serious flare ups that have been debilitating. Fibromyalgia has really sucked the life out of me. Now, I have to decide if going though the extra pain will be worth the bundle of joy.

If you often suffer from back pain then you can be sure as heck that as your belly gets bigger and bigger your back will give you a harder time. My sister can no longer have children for that and other reason (spine issues). But I don't think the pain is unbearable, if you really want a baby then you will agree that the extra pain is nothing compared to having a baby! I'll surely go for it once things get better. Hardest thing about being pregnant is that you must be SO careful with what you eat and the meds you take. You definitely need to be VERY careful.

Everyone IS different. I have a friend who actually went into remission when she got pregnant. She had two kids and was in remission for years. I'm not saying that this will be you. You won't know until you're there. What a tough decision you have!

You're very welcome, dymon26. I think the most important thing is that it has to be *your* decision and no one else can make it except for you and your partner. There's not the same stigma there was years ago about choosing to be childless, for one thing, if that's on your mind.

This is an extremely difficult decision and one that I don't envy you having to make. Do be sure that you don't get talked into the decision that happened to be best for someone else, though. Everyone will have an opinion, but only yours counts.

My back and legs are were most of my pain comes from. I also struggle to lift my arms above shoulder level. I'm already plus size so I don't want to gain a lot of weight. So, I'm banking on limiting my weight gain to limit how much pain I experience. I really want a baby and he/she would be well worth the pain in the end. I'm just stuck at the beginning.

What, did I just read the words remission. Oh how I would love to be in remission. None of the medicines my doctor has prescribed has worked. But, knowing my body it will not happen like that.
