Hi,

I was hoping someone here could answer a question for me. I've searched the forum, but the related posts are showing as removed or something (the links are broken).

I've had a terrible, sudden, entirely mysterious, undiagnosed health problem that started in the fall of 2013 and got somewhat better after 3 months but left a ton of problems (none of that seemed related to fibromyalgia, by the way). In December 2013 after 3 months of intense suffering I was advised to start taking Prilosec, although I also tried several other things at the same time. One of them seems to have worked to significantly improve but not solve that problem. I've been on Prilosec ever since.

In late February of this year I suddenly began to develop some new symptoms that a doctor has said may be fibromyalgia (muscle and joint pain, random pains, etc.).

My question is that in my months of desperate attempts to figure out what is going on I have finally come across a number of search hits regarding a possible correlation between Prilosec and fibromyalgia. Not necessarily the cause for every case, obviously, but listed as the potential cause for some cases. I've been on it for about 18 months so I was wondering about the possibility in my case. Unfortunately, the information is not entirely clear about the details.

I am terrified to go off of the Prilosec because the issues I had in 2013 were absolutely horrible. But if it could be causing fibromyalgia, I need to know if I should at least try. It is a long and complicated process to get off of Prilosec and I don't want to rock the boat if I don't need to do so. And the bigger question is if the fibromyalgia would be permanent or if it is only so long as I'm taking the Prilosec.

My doctors haven't even mentioned this possibility, probably as it is not a warning on the label so not officially-recognized.

Again, the questions:
- Has anyone else dealt with a correlation between Prilosec and fibromyalgia?
- If so, is there a chance that getting off of it perhaps stop or ease the symptoms?

I am posting to this site because I needed a place to start. If someone would recommend a different site, please let me know.

I would really appreciate any information anyone has

Thank you

Hi there. This is a new one for me. I didn't find any definitive research through a Google Scholar search. My questions would be" If it did cause fibromyalgia would stopping it help at this point? Is there something else I can take. Hope you find some answers.

Thank you. Yes, I agree that a replacement for the Prilosec would be a good thing to know, as well. But the same issue applies that I don't want to rock the boat unless I knew it had some potential to be worthwhile.
