Pain from pressure

I used to have a Temper Pedic and that helped, but I had to get rid of it, too big for my new apt. tried several. others without success then I bought a Big Fig mattress set.. 120 days trial period and after 1st night it has made all the difference, now I am able to get out of bed without pain and stiffnesss, also Big Fig is also more affordable than others. I do better with massage therapists that concentrate on pain relief massage, after an hour or more, my knots finally work out of my muscles. I still. cannot find any meds or anything else that relieves the constant tenderness and soreness in my lower tendons around my ankles and muscles in the calves. No amount of massage takes that away. Gabapentin was a miracle for me 3 times a day, it has stopped the all over pain flares. Don't have any idea about for relief for your toe joints and pressure, I have recently noticed that too. Keep trying and hope for more good days!
I'm so glad you found a mattress that works for you - that's briliant! Yeah we don't have big fig over here but I'll have a look at their design to see if i can't find something similar. At the moment we don't have any more money to buy another mattress since we bought so many already but maybe in the future. Massage is one of the only things that helps me too. My only issue is that after an hour so my muscles are tight as hell again. Gabapentin did nothing for me but I wasn't taking it three times a day so I don't know if that might be why. Yeah my toes have gotten worse unfortunately. I'm getting this shooting pain and clicking/popping sensation when I walk. I'm hoping it sorts itself out. I'm sorry your toes have started to hurt too! thanks a lot sweetie <3

I don't really know how he expects me to exercise more or how that could help me. He also put me on some medication to help me sleep but it made me suicidal so I'm wary to go back on it. I think finding anyone who can help is kind of like finding a unicorn.
It sounds like you're doing more than enough exercise already - well done for managing to do so much. I know that it helps me a lot too - also particularly with deep and sharp hip pain - but it took me a long time to build up. Trophies all round!

If you're having a lot of trouble sleeping, that's probably exacerbating everything. And, oh my, I know the horrible medicine side effects roulette game, too  and I'm so glad you came through that OK. How much have you experimented with relaxation and stress management, and have you looked at any supplements to try to help your sleep? That could be an angle of approach to explore - not a unicorn, perhaps (I love that - you're so right!) but every little helps 🦄

thankyou :) I think exercise might be doctors' answer for everything lol.

Yep lack of sleep definitely makes things worse. I'm managing to get to sleep at the moment (thank god) but I just hate waking up because I'm in such severe pain from sleeping when I do. But I'm getting a few hours here and there so that's pretty good for me.

Oh god, medication side effects are the worse. I remember I had to go to the ER for one once because I lost control of my body, could barely move and couldn't talk but I ended up sitting in the waiting room for about 8 hours before a doctor would see me which was really terrifying. I think people with fibro definitely seem to be more sensitive to side effects as well. Thankyou <3 I'm kind of anxious about my next appointment with this doctor because I said I wouldn't take the medication if I didn't like the side effects and then he made me promise to take it anyway for at least six weeks, so I'm worried about what he'll say when I tell him that I stopped it (I was only on 2.5 mg so it was safe for me to stop it without talking to him first since he wasn't available at the time). I have looked at some supplements. None of them have worked for me so far and I'm having an issue with a lot of supplements at the moment where so many of them lower blood pressure and I have bad hypotension that can keep me from sleeping so they make that worse. But I'm seeing a new naturopath tomorrow so maybe she might have some ideas. Oh definitely, every little thing helps.

Try not to feel too anxious with your doctor - you're absolutely ok to stop something if it's making you feel bad. Only you can judge what you're experiencing, and whether or not it's worth trying to push through. They are probably trying to help by encouraging you to stick with it, but at the end of the day it's your body!

Ditto on the hypotension - a lot of the supplements recommended for fibro can really stack up in that respect, which is tricky to navigate. I agree that a lot of us seem to be extra sensitive to these things. Fantastic that you're going to a new naturopath - I hope they can identify some new things to try. Let us know how you get on! 🌼

It sure is 🥶 ouch ouch and ouch some more!

My tuppence worth: I need a hard mattress for parts of my back, but soft for my "bones", so I've kept my straw mattress, but put a fairly thin soft topper on it and a lambskin under my thighs, which hurt the most, plus thicker pillows on the side and a small one plus spelt cushion for the middle under my hunchback - experimenting with further toppers & pillows for each bit that hurts might be a bit more affordable.

For the stiffness I was gonna suggest the amino acids I use, but luckily I have hypertension, and turns out I can now leave those meds as as Jemima says: the supps are stacking up which reduce that as sfx (= side effects). - They do have a few sfx I have to watch out for, like today I got a neuropathic stinging pain on my thighs, and have identified increasing glutamine too quickly too much. But nothing like the meds I tried: "Never" again.

I've tried things similar to you for the pain, and osteopathy did help a bit, as well as pinpointing and finding appropriate exercises myself, but gently paced and in short stints. But the real godsend was first cryotherapy (and at home cold showering), then together with acupressure. However 2x2h/wk for over 9 months now, progressing occasionally in small leaps, but usually in titsy-bits, but progressing...
The other main quick help for most pains is regularly twist-stretching everything at the same time for 10-20'': feet = toes and arms = palms outwards & backwards, then inwards.

I also have most of my pain from pressure. I have to be so careful with my feet while I'm sleeping (which I don't get enough of). Pain in my feet especially, wakes me, enough agony to scream. I consider myself as having a high threshold for pain. I have trouble sitting for more than an hour. I have some other acutely painful diseases, but I including a rare neurological one, HNPP. None of my doctors want to talk about Fibromyalgia. They say that I just need to become more active.

I plan to treat myself well and invest in a good mattress, office chair, and comfortable shoes. We are sensitive people neaurologically. Any suggestions for a good mattress?

I just started seeing a pain specialist and he was basically like 'you need to exercise more'. I exercise like 1-2 hours a day already because otherwise my hips stiffen up too much but I hate it because it makes the rest of my pain worse. I don't really know how he expects me to exercise more or how that could help me. He also put me on some medication to help me sleep but it made me suicidal so I'm wary to go back on it. I think finding anyone who can help is kind of like finding a unicorn.
Just my opinion, but if you are exercising that much you are doing plenty, and you are doing very well to do that much, and should be proud of yourself.
To tell you that you should do more is ridiculous.

I am considering getting a memory foam topper for my mattress. Does anyone here have recommendations on which brand is best, or stories about how it did or did not help you?

I bought a double memory foam/viscogel mattress topper for around 200$ which was absolutely transformative - I had been finding lying in bed almost too painful to bear before the topper arrived, but have had much better rest since! Viscogel is a type of microgel which is designed to stay cool, while of course memory foam shapes to your body. I bought a brand called Senso G, but I don't think it's available outside of Europe. I couldn't afford a big-brand topper, so I just trawled through reviews to find something that seemed like a good deal. Definitely worth it in my opinion!

Cissyalice, were you checked for Rheumatoid arthritis and gout too?
I found help in a heated waterbed.
I started out with Lyme Disease that went untreated for quite a while. After that was figured out came a series of diagnosises for related things. Fibromyositis being one of them. It seems like pain treatment is not taken seriously enough.
