Well, the 9 stops was when I lived an hour's drive from a town, and getting there meant going over the mountains, which in winter meant driving to the mountains, putting on snow chains, going over the mountain, taking off the snow chains to go into town, and reversing that on the way home. I lived in an idyllic place and had no desire to go to town unless necessary, so things piled up on the list of what I needed to get. Hardware store, grocery, natural foods store, drug store, get gas, pet store- dog food, stop to see a friend, auto supply store, just ordinary things. I usually only went once or at most twice a month.
These days it's only 30 to 45 minutes to town and over mountains that never require chains in winter but going to town is still not my favorite thing to do.
Your closeness to everything is definitely convenient for you, Jay, and I am happy for you. But definitely not envious! I would hate it with a passion. I am a country person and cannot even imagine living in town.

Ditto sunkacola. Love living away from towns. We go over to lake lahaton everyday. Get visited by wild horses all the time. Grow our food and medicine.

Good for you! I need the best of nature and culture - in 5' distance I can get both, meaning compromises which are fine for me. But no nature: never.
Thx, I can see now all the hidden stops I also have, which each for itself can get strenuous: getting a 10kg bale of straw for the guinea pigs by bike over a hill, getting a bike repaired, meeting with a friend. Used to be no problem, and now I'm slowly getting up to stringing them again a bit more 3-4 on good days, but if altogether <2h...
