I am a man with fibromyalgia (see also my recent diagnosed post). Among many of my symptoms, I would say I suffer from dizziness/balance issues the most. My body always leans toward the right, and I am almost disabled to walk unless I grab an object or person. When I stand still, my body swings from left to right. When I sit down, my upper body still swings. When I lean on the back of the chair, my head still swings. This dizziness exists all the time, but it can get lighter and heavier.

Does anyone have a symptom like that?

In this thread, I would like to hear what kind of treatment/technique/exercise we can practice to deal with dizziness from fibromyalgia.

I have dizziness some times but didn't realize it was a fibro symptom. I feel dizzy when my fatigue is at its worst. When I have these episodes which I happen to current be in one, I have actually started to black out several times. Some after standing up but some I was just sitting at my desk. I thought it was low blood pressure. Actually tried making a doctor's appointment today. We have a steep indoor starecase at work and I noticed the last few years when I walk up the stairs I use my right elbow to steady myself along the wall. And until I just read your post I didn't put 2 and 2 together. I just thought I'd develop balance problems. Heights bother me I get dizzy but they never used to. The other thing when my dizziness is really bad my eyes won't focus right. The problem for me is to find a remedy I need to find out am I dizzy from fatigue or low blood pressure or is fibro causing blurry vision thats making me dizzy? I love to see if some of the seasoned members have some ideas

yes i have that problem to my pain speacilist want me to go a another doctor which i have been to before it got this bad ,it`s not very good when i am work up on the roof or on ladders i just try to think of something esle

Hi William. Did your doc suggest what specifically causes your dizziness?
I cant imagine being on a roof. You'd better be extra careful

I have been seen by a neurologist, balance doctor, ophthalmologist, and neuro-ophthalmologist, but no one figured out my dizziness. And my doctor who takes care of my fibro thinks my dizziness is from fibro. You can also find some articles on dizziness in fibromyalgia online. However, those article says that no one has not clarified how dizziness occurs from fibromyalgia. I also have hypertension, so although some of them might be related to low blood pressure, in my case, it is unlikely.

I wonder about an inner ear problem 🤔
Also stay hydrated and maybe check your iron.
I doubt this is helpful as these are the most basic and obvious, but im really bad at drinking. I'm just never thirsty. I've wondered before if some of my problems are just from lack of fluid. But then I think if im not thirsty I must not need it. I'm a cactus 🌵

Unfortunately, not feeling thirsty doesn't mean you don't need to stay hydrated. I recommend that you fill two 32 oz water bottles (or at least 24oz) at the start of every day and drink all of both by the end of the day. You can do it just a few sips at a time. Not drinking enough water will cause other problems, can cause kidney issues if it goes on long enough.

Remember, cactus do not need a lot of rain because they store water in their bodies for use when there's no rain. They will die if they don't have enough water, it just takes longer. Human beings cannot store water in their bodies.

I'm so enjoying all the cactus references :)

I think a lot of people aren't sensitised to their hydration level, and don't realise they're not drinking enough until they proactively drink more for a while and start to feel much better. I always go with minimum 2 litres (around 68 oz) water per day, on top of anything else I drink, and more in the summer. Filling a container or two in the morning is a great idea - it's just something to get in the habit of like brushing your teeth. Since I've been religious about it (years now) I notice immediately if I don't drink enough.

Using our cacti outside as reference - even though they can survive drought - they flourish and grow like crazy when they get water every day! 🌵🌵🌵🌵🌵

I do three 24 oz water bottles every day except for summer, when it is a great deal more than that. I live in a dry climate so that makes it even more important, but it's vital for everyone to drink enough water every day. I find sometimes I will start to feel unaccountably irritable in late afternoon, and about 95% of the time I discover I have not had enough water that day.

not yet he is sending me to another doctor who charges $400 for 5 minutes work .why is it three of my doctors chargre at that rate

Ouch! That's really a lot of money. I'm so sorry, William.

I was reading about orthostatic intolerance this morning on the Baker Institute website, and it explains that that kind (perhaps your kind) of dizziness is caused by various forms of malfunction of the natural systems that our bodies use to counter the impact of gravity on blood pressure when we are standing. It says that "simple measures such as tensing the leg muscles to move blood back to the head, drinking a good amount of water and eating a high salt diet can help," and that there are also medications that can be prescribed to either tighten blood vessels or enhance salt and fluid retention.

It sounds like your symptoms are quite risky for the work you do. Please do be careful! I hope this doctor provides something of real value for you, and that you feel better soon.

This is completely familiar to me.......when I have a flare up it usually starts with the orthostatic hypotension.....feeling faint when I stand......this improves over time until I just feel dizzy and lightheaded and unbalanced.....just had the worst episode ever, starting to improve slowly, but usually have a bad period during the day, mid morning, and if I do too much. Frustrating.😩

You need electrolytes in your water. Pressed coconut water is wonderful.
I thought my dizziness was from the RSO. (Pot)
The brain doctor gave me exercises that really helped with my balance as well as tai chi. (Also found on utube)

hi. i am so sorry that you are experiencing these symptoms. i know exactly how you are feeling. as i have the same. i have found that breathing exercises help . and CBD gummies found in health shops. My GP believes that a lot of these symptoms stem from the digestive system. Also the vagus nerve.

You will have first seen a neurologist, yes, about the balance issues? I have had feelings of light dizziness before getting diagnosed years ago from iron deficiency, and thought it was low blood pressure by mistake. But recently I had three episodes within a month, along with loss of a lot of feeling in my right hand particularly. A lot of fibro folks have neck pain, and mine comes and goes. An MRI shows some stenosis, where cervical arthritis/degeneration may be pressing on the spinal cord. I was 100% that was it, and it showed up, but now the symptoms have drastically reduced. So fibro is probably involved as well. For dizziness I took over-the-counter meclizine, which luckily got rid of it. But I have no balance issues. My issues went on a month or more and today my numbness is gone, though I still have periods of bad cramping in the right hand on and off.

If you are older like I am, stenosis can also affect balance. A good internist should think of these things but I was the one who thought of it first, simply because my Dad had it, and I figured I might be genetically inclined. The neurologist didn't look for that, he looked for MS. But when I saw the MRi results, I immediately sent them to the orthopedist to proceed as he handles the spinal aspect. It gets very convoluted!
