Hmm, well I see no problem in docs giving latest honest ideas, if honesty includes that cause research is "ongoing" = unproven.
Just my own experience and all I read on the forums shows me that's wishful thinking & forum discussions help much more.... 👐

I don't think it's about what we all believe to be honest JayCS, as people are a lot more health savvy nowadays and will come to their own conclusion. We all know our own body and mind far more than anyone else, as you know!
For me it's about being given the facts in the first place, the latest honest findings, and saying research is ongoing...

And yes I agree, this forum helps me a lot too. Even this discussion shows how we can all have a different viewpiont on things and express ourselves in a way that makes us think! 🙃

Maybe my pov is because I work from a holistic piont of view: heal the mind to help heal the body. But you have to be given the honest facts firstf to begin the process of helping your mind and body...

Anyway...it's all about honesty for me. :)

I mean the specialist that actually know what they're talking about.
If we don't share current findings, how are we to learn and grow as a society, as sufferers of this illness? And what would be the piont in research?
We should tell people about latest findings. Latest findings are pointing to more than one possible answer, though. There is no harm at all in mentioning all of the different theories, or at the very least the ones that are currently getting the most attention (assuming we know that) -the ones on which the most research is being done.

In fact, it's a great idea, because then the person can do their own research into those theories and who is researching them. as you say. I am only saying that, if one is to do that, then one must list all of the current theories that are being researched in qualified institutions (Stanford, Mayo clinic, Harvard Medical School, etc.) It is only potentially harmful if you only mention ONE of them and state it as if it were in fact the known cause or explanation, when that is not specifically known at this time.

I have always been a believer in giving people the latest honest facts so it allows them to make their own decisions and work on their own self care. How are we ever going to learn if we don't get a chance to agree or disagree with what they say?
Again I agree with you -- it's important to give information and definitely it should be the "latest honest facts".

The fact is that no theory has as yet been conclusively proven.
So if you want to give people the latest honest facts you have to tell them that nothing has yet been proven to be the cause or nature of fibromyalgia. Then, listing the top theories (ie: autoimmune, neurological, etc) would be good information. If you only tell them one unproven theory, even if it is one of the currently popular ones, that is not an honest fact.

If you only tell them one unproven theory, even if it is one of the currently popular ones, that is not an honest fact.
Thanks for your reply sunkacola, but as I said...
Giving them the latest info and letting them go away to concentrate on self care is wiser than a diagnosis and worrying that they still don't know what it is, which is counter intuitive in my opinion - what's the piont of a diagnosis if we don't give the latest findings? Then it's just a label left hanging...
When I say honest fact, I mean the most recent findings, the top honest fact being said by the specialists. (that's honest and a fact- they are saying it) And yes, I know that so much is yet to be proven, so I believe that by giving them this and telling them research is ongoing will allow them to source their own self care and make their own decision on whether they agree or disagree with the specialists.
I can't stress enough how much I agree thet it should be noted to people that research is ongoing. All I'm saying is that we can't overload at diagnosis, but at least give them the latest info as a basis to work from instead of nothing.
