Hello my name is Sylvia and I’m new to this forum. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia last year around this time. Does anyone else suffer from serious UTI’s because of this??? Feeling lost or misdiagnosed

Hi Sylvia,
I've never heard of chronic UTIs being associated with fibromyalgia. I suggest you see a urologist to find out what is going on, because chronic infections of this kind can cause permanent kidney damage.

Thank you Sunkacola, I’ve been seeing a Urologist and he didn’t find anything wrong. As a matter of fact I’m seeing him again on Friday. I will ask for further testing. Thank you

Hmm, I don't understand: If you have UTIs, he must have found something, or not? Or do you mean bladder pain? That's something different, and quite a few 'fibromites' have it. I have pain before peeing and have to go often, but neither my urologist nor my nephrologist has found anything, which means it's a muscle problem.
In case you're interested: I'm managing to decrease the pain by sitting bent strongly forward. And the frequency a lot by drinking only soy drink and only little watery stuff, and a little by not drinking quite as much, which the nephrologist said is OK. My dryness has got better after a treatment from my acupressurist.

Thank you for your reply. I will see what my Urologist can help me tomorrow when I go back in. It’s constant UTIs unfortunately. I’m glad you’re better. I’m going to schedule with an acupuncturist today.

If you really have chronic infection, something is causing that. Consider changing what you wear, what you eat, the soap you use, etc. and see if you can find out what is giving you these infections. there's usually a way to prevent it. You just have to find what that is.

I totally agree. I’m making a list of new changes to do for this. Thank you

I have also suffered from chronic UTIs. I looked at my medications I was taking and think about how they affected my nerves and muscles and discovered that the brain and bladder muscles were not communicating. Then I tried to remember when my Dr. changed me from Gabapentin to Lyrica and then the UTIs started right after I began taking the Lyrica. Some of the medications that are prescribed can cause weak communication between the brain and the nerves in your bladder, and because of this, you might have a weak stream, not emptying completely, or some other problems. Or you might need hormonal cream because the imbalance can cause the symptoms of a UTI but not not not an actual UTI. I hope this helps. You might also try a Female Pelvic Specialist or Urologist. I also use Dial antibacterial soap in the bar.

I have suffered with them badly to.
But I found a few things that helped .sex always starts me off.sorry TMI coming
I always go to the bathroom after and wash .it’s so important to wash without soap as our bits are way to close together.and after intercourses it’s far easier to transfer germs .
I can’t stress enough how much this helped me.even just using a shower head .
Also u could ask the dr for a long term antibiotic that u take once after sex .this stops the bloody things starting in the first place .sending u hugs xx

With my fibro symptoms comes a condition named Interstitial cystitis which when in a flare causes extreme UTI type symptoms, I have lay off caffeine colas, coffee, and citrus for a while when happens and take pain relievers.

A quick google comes up with ties between fibro, UTIs and Interstitial cystitis - just as Klickkat mentions above. According to the website Fibromyalgia Resources, 25% of fibro sufferers experience one or the other. I remember reading before that UTIs as a chronic co-condition to fibro might either be genuine infections, or might be miscommunicated pain signals rearing their pesky heads once again. If you have an infection, your doctor should have easily picked this up in their initial test - this is a really basic thing to check for. Definitely no harm in looking further and double-checking, but otherwise I'd try experimenting with lifestyle changes to see if you can find something that down-shifts the symptoms or eliminates them all together. I used to have real trouble in this area, but it seems to have stopped now I've learned to pace myself more and not to overdo it so much! Good luck.

I too have problems with reoccurring UTIs. My urologist performed a cystoscopy recently and discovered two dark colored spots on the inside of my bladder. She said it's from a long-term infection. The curious part is that I have frequent negative test results for infection and rarely any symptoms. The best answer I can give is, I don't know. I'm wishing you the best! Oh - drinking 8-16 ounces of cranberry juice every day has helped me some. 😊❤️

I’ve read cranberry's in fact do nothing to help UTI,I to had a camera up my bladder.found nothing .but as I have said mine are from sex .

Actually cranberry supplements are the most helpful - as stated by my urologist. 🤔 Maybe try those instead of the juice?

Giggles funny because the hospital dr told me it does nothing 🤣🤣
