Two Thursdays ago I was finally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. My walk-in clinic doctor diagnosed me. I originally went to her to get a referral to the rhumatologist (I say "the" because she's the only one where I live that's in my insurance's preferred network, and the other hospital has a very poor reputation as of late,) but she said that she was very comfortable diagnosing Fibro. The rhumatologist has a ridiculously long waiting list, and she wasn't sure it was wise to make me wait so long to get in, so she did the tender point test and then diagnosed me. Keep in mind that she did this after close to a year's worth of testing from specialists all across the board, with nearly every blood test you can think of. She was very informed about my situation.

So then she prescribed me Cymbalta. Have any of you tried this? I took it for a little over a week and it was TERRIBLE. Nausea, extreme dizziness, severe loss of appetite (lost 11 pounds in one week,) worsening mind fog, much worse depression (not suicidal, but thoughts that I would be better off dead - made no plans and didn't dream of death,) and loss of vision. I was a total zombie. The reason I didn't stop is because several people warned me that Cymbalta withdrawal can be worse than staying on it, and you're supposed to ween off. So I got into my doctor as soon as I could, which was yesterday, and she's helping me ween off now. She did not prescribe me anything new, and I wouldn't take it even if she did. She set me up to see a Psychologist instead.

I didn't take Cymbalta today, and I honestly feel SO MUCH BETTER. Except that I'm realizing the Cymbalta was helping with my fibro and joint pain, because my old pains are coming back in full force. I didn't go to work today because I've got a headache and I don't really know how I'm doing (just way better in comparison.) (And I'm still struggling to some degree- most notably I'm struggling with my vision, as I'm reading words wrong. I sometimes have to read something 2-3 times before I figure it out, like I kept thinking the word "file" was "fire" and couldn't understand the sentence.)

What are your experiences with Cymbalta? If you got off it, did you find it helpful to ween, or did you just stop taking it?

I took cymbalta..got myself off after a few months...I was on 60 mgs. Then took myself down to 30 then just stopped. I don't recommend doing it that way. The first time I tried I became so depressed shaky and sick it was unbelievable..I didn't know what was going on..I found help and advice.
So the next time I tried I knew why i was feeling so bad.. It took me weeks to finally feel like me again. Take your Drs advice go slow..you shouldn't be to bad only being on it a short while but everyone is different.
I will never take cymbalta again no matter what.
I hated the way I was on the drug..for some it is great just not me..
Good luck keep posting

I was diagnosed in July after a few years of ruling out every other possible cause, I was also put on cymbalta and took it for 3 weeks before i stopped taking it, I did not wean off and after 2 days off my stomach recovered. I had a brutal time on cymbalta stomach issues galore, shaking and a manic feeling like i was going to jump out of my skin- I was very hopeful and desperate and tried my best to stay on it but it just wasnt for me.
If I had been taking it for a long time I would have weaned but I figured I was ok at 3 weeks only and honestly if I did have withdrawl symptoms I probably wouldnt have even noticed as I was a mess. Since then I have tried several other meds that didnt agree with me the worse being zoloft but I see reviews from people saying its a lifesaver for them.
I hope you feel better soon

Cymbalta just made all my pain worse. Did all the "big pharma" thing for five years. Thankfully I live in an MMJ state so at least I have options. Best move for me. Hope you find something that helps.

I take Cymbalta, 60mg currently, just started taking it a few weeks ago. It's ok for me. It is helping with my pain a little, but I am still having break through pain. I also take Lyrica, which is a total life saver for me. I would not be able to walk without the Lyrica, serious. I have had zero side affects from either one. I am not impressed with the Cymbalta. I see my dr. next Tuesday and either we will up it to 90mg or maybe try something else. I will let you know if he has me ween off it.

I tried it on 2 separate times for about 2 weeks both times. It made me too hyped-up and nervous, so I just quit cold-turkey. No problems with stopping, in fact, I actually felt better.

It was the first thing my Dr. gave me a few weeks ago to try after being diagnosed. I took it for 24 hours - 1 pill and stopped. I took it and 2 hours later I was completed knocked out for 8 hours. When I woke up, my pupils were dilated like an alien. I went back to bed a few hours later. I woke up and still napped the next day. My pupils stayed huge for about 72 hours. I developed a rash on my face, neck, and chest. I think something else happened with it, but I can't recall at the moment. Anyway, that was enough of it. I was then given Gabapentin, but I just quit that, too. I only took it for like 4 days. Made me feel, weak, sluggish, depressed, and agitated where I was pulling my own hair. Just can't take this stuff, I guess.
