I am considering trying it myself. I have nothing that helps the pain. I take sleeping pills and anti depressants that do help me some. I have diabetes as well and my doctor is very careful to make sure any medication he gives me does not have weight gain as a side effect. I have slowly started to lose the weight and don't want to gain any back. Is weight gain an issue with mmj ?

It honestly depends on the strain ...the ar so many different ones out there. Do your research first. It's not like when I was a teenager..it's now recognized as a medical alternative...

Thanks for the info! Do you have a medical card? I'm in CA and would have access to it. Just wondering how well it helps :)

Nope don't have one and up here in Canada..yes it's illegal the way I get it . But I know you can get it legally here my Dr doesn't believe in it so I get whatever way I can. I actually had a specialist tell me smoking cigarets was better for me than pot! To say the least I don't see him anymore.
If you can get a medical card talk to your Dr about it, it might work for you it might not. I believe we all have the right to choose our own medical path.
Good luck and keep us posted

this may be a dumb question but does Medical marijuana come in pill form? I don't smoke, don't want to smoke but have read a lot while doing online research about the benefits of medical marijuana for fibromyalgia.
If you live in a state that gives you the option and you have access to the raw plant material then you can make your own capsules. Recipes abound all over the net and are easy but may consume a good chunk of a day to make. I make butter, tincture and smoke it. The releaf is different than pills but I tolerate it better and one plant replaces six different meds at least. P.S. Marinol only delivers 10-20% of the THC in each dose, and that is why most people want want an alternative prefer the real deal.

I have had good luck with hemp extract high in cannabidiol, which is more specific to pain relief and does not produce anxiety. The products I have tried are legal because they are made from industrial hemp and do not contain THC. I would not be taking street marijuana, it can produce panic attacks.

I had never tried marijuana until I was 43 years old. I use it once in a while when I have had a miagraine for a couple of days, or my pain level is high, or when me and hubby want to kick back in the hot tub and "bake". It is not legal in Tennessee. In fact, Tennessee is always one of the last states to approve things. We just got the lottery a few years ago! Anyway, I do not see the use of medical marijuana coming to this state soon. I will be for it when voting starts.
My cousin has severe anxiety and adhd. He functions daily with its use.
I used to be on narcotics but became addicted. I was able to get off thank goodness because it was the last thing I needed!
I'm sure it is not for everyone. I never saw myself trying it. But I also never saw myself in this situation, but here I am.
I am going to investigate the uses of basil. Thanks for that advice.

Yes,according to me medical marijuana definitely helps for treatment of many diseases.

There's still a debate over marijuana use. A bill, which launched in the legislature on July 17, 2012 seek to give a lawful defense to state-licensed medical pot customers when dealing with federal prosecution. On the other hand, President Obama once famously said that to prosecute marijuana users who are in compliance with state laws was a poor use of federal resources. Yet the crackdown on state-licensed dispensaries continues.

When my husband was going through his cancer treatments, he used marijuana to help with the nausea and I told him that I thought it might help with the pain as well, but he said that it didn't.

Of course there are a lot of different varieties and maybe you need to get connected with the right variety for overall relief.

I use medical marijuana and it can help if you have the right strain. Each strain has it's own percentage of the various chemicals found in marijuana. For pain, you usually need strains that are high in CBD rather than THC. Indicas are good IMO. But, to be honest, the only time it's ever worked really well was when I had it in a topical ointment. I could rub it into my skin and it would give me a lot of relief without making me high (which I need during the day...too many responsibilities and HAVE to be alert).

Any other way of taking it helps take the edge off but doesn't provide the same relief for me. I've tried pills, tinctures, oPen (e-cig for cannabis), loose herb (smoking it), edibles (food), as well as the ointment.

Now, the odd thing is that smoking it is just fine for other types of pain. But, for this I prefer the topical treatment. If it's legal in your friend's area, I suggest seeing if you can find a place that sells the ointment or a cream/lotion made from cannabis. I've tried it in both forms and they both worked the same.

If your friend does use the ointment, have whomever puts it on them wear gloves. 1. Nobody seems to know if the THC gets into your system this way and the person may pop positive on a test and 2. Their hands will feel tingly and weird. Nothing will be wrong, I'm just told it's unpleasant. Since most of my pain is in my back, I always have had someone else put it on me.

*hugs*
Jayelle

I dont personally tried it bit I believe Marijuana does wonder curing different illnesses. If you cans till remember, bipartisan group of 18 legislators, such as Barney Frank (D-Mass.) and Ron Paul (R-Texas), released a bill on July 17 that is intended to supply a legal protection for customers of legal in case of prosecution produced by the dichotomy between federal and state laws.

Yes you can definitely "get" it in pill form. However, while you CAN buy the, I would suggest just making your own because it's super easy and you can control what goes in them. I make cannaoil (the more typical term for oil infused with THC) using coconut oil. Coconut oil is KEY for this recipe because it is a saturated fat, the BEST in fact, and it holds more THC than unsaturated. It is also SUPER good for you and will help with other symptoms of your FM, like disappearing the strange bumps you get on your arms above the elbows, libido problems (this stuff REALLY gets you going hehe), increased energy and focus, skin dryness, and so on.

To make this magic product just simmer a half cup of coconut oil, four cups of water, and a quarter ounce of green for three hours, stirring frequently (you might need to add some more water if it boils away, do not let the water boil away or you will burn your oil!). Once three hours have passed, let it cool for like a half hour off the heat. Stir it again and then strain it through a wire sieve lined with cheese cloth into a glass container (if you use plastic the thc may seep into the plastic). Make sure that you squeeze all the plant matter in the cheese cloth until nothing comes out. LOTS of oil gets stuck in there and it's the strongest stuff so don't waste it! Give it one more stir in the bowl (to release any oil that has bonded with the bottom), cover it, and put it in the fridge for a few hours or over night until the oil has solidified. After that, the oil and water will separate so you can drain out the nasty brown water and other gunk and place the chunk of fresh cannaoil on a paper towel to remove any excess water. Then, break it up into a smaller glass container to store it. I recommend warming it up a little in the microwave so it's a little soft but still firm, and then whip it with a spoon or fork to make sure that all the THC is evenly distributed in the oil.

The other benefits of this recipe are that the oil comes out super clean and a nice light green colour instead of looking like mud and tasting like crap like most recipes that recommend you cook without any water. The water though acts like bong water, taking out a lot of the crap from the pot, but THC will not bond with the water. Instead, it bonds with the fat. You also do not risk burning your oil, which can destroy it.

Anywho, I suggest keeping this oil around to use topically for itches, pain, inflammation, stiffness, and so on. Also, it makes GREAT pills. Just buy some empty gel caps and fill them with the oil. It's great stuff!

I wish they would legalize this across the states and give people the option to use this as a medical treatment. My husband smokes a little on occasion and I KNOW it helps with his pain. Unfortunately, the government does not want to give him that option. :(

Both my parents suffer from chronic pain and are firm advocates of medical marijuana. They have both smoked in the past and it has noticeably helped their aches and pains a lot, ESPECIALLY my mother, who's pain can become very severe. Its helped her a lot more than many of the medicines she has taken. I really wish they would go ahead and legalize it in the US for the good of the people that need it, the drug has been proven time and time again to help those that suffer with a plethora of illnesses, from chronic pain to cancer.
