Hello everyone. First of all, pardon me for my bad english. I have been in pain since 3 years ago. I went to many doctors but no proper diagnosis accepted. I was given tramadol to relieve my pain. Unfortunately, the medication is no more effective and I am in so much pain nowadays. I started give up seeing doctor since they continuously send my to counselor which does not solve my problem at all. Here, treatment from private hospital is quite expensive and I cannot afford them. So I just go to the General Hospital. Anybody with same story? What should I do now?
Oh..forgot to tell. I experience pain in my jaw, neck, shoulder, both arms, waist, and both legs. I spend most of my time in my room. I tried walking slowly, but the pain after was so terrible.

Hello ain sofiah, welcome - we are glad to meet you!

I was lucky, I got to see a rheumatologist unusually quickly. I got my diagnosis just a few weeks after I saw the rheumatologist.

I'm not sure how health care works in Malaysia. Can your doctor refer you to a rheumatologist? It is important to get tested for autoimmune diseases. Autoimmune diseases are treated differently than fibromyalgia.

One thing that may help you is to keep a written log of your symptoms. A written record may help you show the doctor whether your medications are helping. A written log might help you see patterns on your own too.

Are you having trouble sleeping? Poor sleep will make the pain worse.

Please feel welcome to join in the conversation here. I have found this forum to be warm and welcoming. Hopefully you will too :)

Welcome ain sofia. A problem shared is have solved. You realize that the problem with fibro is the fact that it manifests uniquely in different individuals and this is also the case with responsiveness towards drugs. What is you occupation? I have come to realize that a sedentary lifestyle with little exercise is not the best. Others have fibro from heavy lifting in the past though this is rare since the body musculature and bones adjust accordingly. Besides taking medications, you can also practice what I refer as walking medicine. This releases endorphins and serotonin into the bloodstream which are pain relieving. Keep a diary of all the activities you perform and the foods you eat in order to know the triggers of your pain.

Here, doctors seem not so familiar with FMS. I went to doctors many times but none of them send me to rheumatologist. They just gave me pain killer. About written log, I've done that. I hope it could be used for diagnosis. Thanks for your concern. I finally found people who I can talk to.

I am a student. Before this, I am an active person. This problem started once I got slip disc 3 years ago. The pain did not occur simultaneously before this. Which mean, sometimes the pain occurred in arms, and occurred in legs at the other day. But currently, it occur everywhere. I guess writing diary is brilliant. Thanks for your reply.

It is difficult when the doctors don't understand the illness. A rheumatologist could do blood tests to find out whether you have an autoimmune disease or fibromyalgia.

If it is fibromyalgia there are some things you can try on your own to feel better. If you can manage it light exercise helps (walking is great). Rest when you need to; don't overdo it. Baths with Epsom salts help. Eating lots of good fruits and vegetables is good. Many of us find that some foods make our symptoms worse, especially sugary foods. Dairy and/or gluten affect some people badly (but not me). Stress makes fibromyalgia much worse. Things like meditation and breathing exercises can help reduce stress (and fibromyalgia symptoms)

I hope this is helpful!

Hi there! So sorry to hear your pain is really bad, but have you thought about giving up gluten and see how that works out for you? I have heard some people have had great results by changing their diet, foods like pineapple are said to help with inflammation. I have personally thought of giving up a lot foods that might make inflammation worse... like for example gluten and processed foods.
