Hey guys, firstly I know I can't be diagnosed here but it's difficult to see a GP in this current climate but I just wanted to get some opinions on people that have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

2 months ago I started to get random intermitted pain that jumps from place to place in my shoulders, upper back, arms, hands, ribs and sometimes in my legs/feet on both sides of my body (I seem to have developed IBS during this period which runs in my family). The pain has caused me bad anxiety as I've no idea why I'm in pain, sometimes during the day I get periods of fatigue. I've had some bloods taken but I'm currently waiting to hear back from the doctor so he can take more bloods to rule out other things. (Rheumatoid arthritis etc).

It's been driving me mad as I suffer from anxiety and think I've got a serious illness, and it couldn't of happened at a worse time with COVID and not being able to see a doctor.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated (Like what tests doctors have to do to diagnose you with it), and I'll answer any questions people have for me :)

Hi Ben,

The things you describe could be FM or could be other things. You will need to go through tests to eliminate all the other things it could be (and there are a lot) before a diagnosis of FM is likely to be made. there is no one reliable test for fibromyalgia - it is a process of eliminating all the other things.

If you'd like to read something that offers advice on how to manage various symptoms, see my post on that. Maybe something there will help you in some way.

The most important thing for you I think, from what you write, is to work on your anxiety. There's advice on that as well in my post. Try to remember that all the worrying you are doing and all the anxiety can only do one thing - make everything worse. Focus on techniques to being that down while you wait and see what is going on with you physically. And take care of yourself!

Good luck with finding some answers working with your doctor. To me it sounds like anxiety is the big issue for you so while you are waiting I would work on things like meditation and exercise in order to clear the anxiety and see if that helps clear up the pain, too.

I am sad to hear that you are enduring such kind of pain. I also had the similar experience ( the whole body was in pain) and I thought that I had the diagnosis of FM. After visiting a doctor it turned out that it was my body reaction on stress. I really recommend you not to make any conclusions by yourself and to visit a specialist. Hope, you will find the answer soon and will do well!
