Having severe pain in my right shoulder and scapular. Fell last fall but this pain just started a month ago. Scheduled for a CT as X-ray did not show a break so wondering if it is the fibromyalgia? Have pain in most areas of body as well but not nearly as bad. Thank you for any advice.

Hi @Grammy04 . I don't think anyone here can tell you whether or not this pain you have is caused by fibromyalgia. The thing is that those of us who have been diagnosed with fibro have a tendency to attribute every pain and new symptom we have to the fibro, and this can be dangerous because if the new symptom is something else we need to know. So it's good that you are going to be getting a CT, and are exploring the causes for this. I wish you the best of luck in finding out, and in finding treatment options as well. Let us know how it goes!

Good evening Grammy04,
I have them pains all the time, but in my case the pain is coming from the right side of my neck . Please ask for a neck ct. just to rule out an issue there. Take care and go easy on yourself, rest when you need .

I have had pain in my upper back on the right side under my scapula for years. Anytime I do anything with my upper body, I get the pain. It's persistent and aching. I was told by an orthopedist that it was a "trigger spot" and was given steroid shots. That lasts a few weeks and that's it. I have RA, Sjogren's and Fibro, so who knows why I get this pain. I have a new spine specialist, who just ordered a thoracic MRI. Hopefully, I'll get some answers. Wish the same for you!

Greetings, @Mariannel and welcome to the forum. I hope you find this site useful. :)

Thank you for the information and good luck to you

@Grammy04
Are you a side sleeper? If so, is the shoulder that hurts on the side that you sleep on?

I had severe shoulder pain in both shoulders last year and it turns out that, being a side sleeper, I was putting too much of my body weight on my shoulder. The only thing that helped me was using a special pillow designed to completely remove the weight from the shoulder. I had to use that for several months before I could sleep without the medical pillow.

Now I have learned to align my shoulder properly when I am sleeping on my side, and also to allow my upper arm to take some of the weight. I now have no pain in my shoulders at all.

Thank you for the information. I am a side sleeper so could you please tell me where you got the pillow?

I got it from MedCline. Not cheap. In fact, since I no longer need mine, I have it for sale on FB Marketplace. It was expensive but necessary for me. If it's too expensive, I think it might be possible for you to look at the design of the pillow and improvise creating your own system to relieve any pressure on that shoulder and allow it to heal.

Thank you. I have a Dr. appointment Monday and will get her opinion also.
