Hi Everyone,

I've been having a hoarse throat and cold symptoms that seem to come and go. I also sneeze alot more. Almost like I have allergies, but I don't.

During the same periods, I seem to have a harder time with swallowing. It feels like my throat is "thick"

Anyone have on and off cold/allergy type symptoms?

That sound like hayfever to me. Or maybe dust allergies.u can get them any point in your life .so don't rule them out .x

I've had a lot of sinus infections in my time, but I don't think they are related to fibromyalgia. It's important to keep the mucus in my sinuses thin to avoid infections. Saline rinses are a great help. I've also found iodine or kelp supplements help thin the mucus, but you have to be careful with iodine - too much (or too little) can cause thyroid problems. Breathing steam is good too.

I'm still not sure what the heck it is, but it's been a couple of months.

I have a symptom listing that I printed out a while back. It has so many things, it's hard to believe that they can all be tied. But, yep...cold like symptoms and hoarseness is on it. Geez... Never ending effects.

Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) google it! Nobody could figure it out thought I had asthma. After researching it, I diagnosed it myself and went to see an ear, nose and throat specialist. And they confirmed that is what I had! It is like acid reflux but it is silent, you don't feel heartburn. It is in your throat and it can do many things, trouble swallowing, hoarse voice, coughing, sore throat, mucous in throat, chest can hurt, can be hard to breath! etc. I have it very badly and the only way I know that it is flared up is my throat gets sore and so raw. It has changed my taste before and also my tongue has been numb before! It is nasty stuff! Fibro can be known for digestive issues, I have slow to empty stomach so the food sits too long in my stomach before it gets digested. And also my stomach is so sensitive due to all the pain meds I have had to take most of my life! If it flares up I have to double up on all medicines and watch what I eat for several weeks until is settles down. It takes a long time to settle down at first but it will!
Good luck! Hope this has helped! I wish someone would of told me about this!

Thanks Scrub! That might make sense. I had an endoscopyand was told all my upper GI is inflamed and to stop taking NSAIDS. Then I went to ENT for the feelings in my throat, he said throat was fine but it could be caused by GERD. So, as you said..even tho I don't particularly feel any gastro related ailments...Maybe this is what I have. Wow..I love this site lol. The doctors just blow me off and make me feel like a hypochondriac, which I am not

Omg, not Scrub LOL!! Myou spell check did that

you are welcome! go to specialist with that. The family doctors don't do a good job on treating that, I don't think. You have to take a lot of medicine and take it for a long time to get better. I hope you find a doctor that will help you. I went to a GI doctor and didn't like the way they treated me so I went to ear, nose and throat doctor. And she is awesome. Good luck to you!
