Hi,
I live in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Winter time is starting to slowly show itself. I can already fell my arthritis getting sore, stiff and that is starting to stress my body. So then the Fibro starts up. I have struggled for the last two-three days to function at work in the mornings. Now, I can feel the depression starting up. I also have vit D deficiently (as if I really needed that too!). I am really having a hard time staying positive. Each year it seems to get worse and worse as the snowball affect starts and then gets going full blown! I do still work full time, although I do tend to miss a bit in the winter time. I also take my vacation time in the winter to help "justify" my time off. How do you handle it when you know that "it is starting" again? how do you stay positive? I think I really need some ideas!

Hi There fellow Canadian, I know are winters can really take a toll on us. I don't live in Alberta though its even colder there. The only thing that helps me personally is knowing that it doesn't damage my body like some other diseases can. I always tell myself that at least I don't have Cancer or anything life threatening like some other poor souls have. I know that my illness will have really bad days and some good days, but that doesn't mean I don't get depressed because I certainly do. Sometimes I get really down and think terrible thoughts but that to passes. When I get down I get out of the house even if I go take my dog for a walk our if its to cold I'll just go shopping. Sitting in the house for some reason makes my depression even worse. Sorry I couldn't have been more helpful maybe someone else has a better idea. I would like to know too, that's a really good question. Stay warm this winter!

I feel it, too. Cried three times today already due to my arm, legs, and back.

It's breaking my heart to read your posts... How to keep positive, trying to do something that makes you feel good, investigating the disease, trying to see what doctors can't, it has to be a way to improve.

It is difficult when we know that weather changes, cold or hot, make our lives more miserable. I try to stay as positive as possible; pray for the best and be ready for the worst. Stress makes everything worse for me so I'm learning to take what comes.

I agree, it's like a downward spiral, the stress generate more pain and the pain makes us feel helpless and stress more... We need to learn how to deal with this.

Living in central AZ I have the opposite problem--with heat. It can get up to 110*F in summer and down to the teens in winter. The heat has always bothered me more; legs start hurting, more migraines, etc. I'm so grateful for air conditioning ! It's expensive but so necessary. As bad as the pain and fatigue get, I always know it could be worse, much worse. Many other people have to deal with more, loosing everything. I try to maintain an attitude of gratitude-I emphasize "try".
Please hang in there, that was only one day. So glad you have a friend, it goes a long way. I have no close friends and I so miss it. I do have a great husband.

Hi there! So sorry to hear you are going thru this, but did you know that according to some scientists a vitamin D deficiency can be responsible of causing depression or making it worse? If I were you I'd try to up my intake of foods that contain vitamin D, or take a supplement, but first ask your doctor. It seems there is a strong relationship between vitamin D deficiency and depression!

Thank you so much for your support. Yes, I have been tested for Vit D deficiency and yes I do have it. But the depression I have had way before the Vit D thing started. I do take large quantities of Vit D especially in the winter time. I do think of the good days and try to remember them on the bad days. I just find it so difficult with you know there is this monster coming for you. That is what I feel like. It is going to take my energy and give me exhaustion back, the pain in my arthritic joints are going to really such. I have DJD- my arthritis is from over use of the joints. My back is the worst. I have two herniated discs but the doctors won't do anything because my vertebrates are literally collapsing on to one another because of the arthritis. I see a specialist that deals with Fibro patients. So I am sure I have one of the best. As many times as I have been to the hospital, I have had multiple doctors agree it is Fibro with Depression. So thanks again for the support. I love this forum and some days I really feel like someone is REALLY getting it.
