Rheumatologist says I have Fibro.
i don't trust the diagnosis until I can have an MRI on my back (which no dr will give me a referral for!)
I have severe arthritis in my TMJ's and displaced discs on both sides. My jaw and muscles feel 'crunchy' gritty and are very noisy. My spine is the same along with extreme pain! It's so stiff and also internally rotated (I have Scoliosis and didn't find out til I was 20 years old).
One side of my erector spinae is completely hardened. I would not be surprised if there is arthritis or slipped discs in my back! And also in the back of my neck which crunches too.

I don't know why Dr's won't give me an MRI referral when it's my money. They keep saying it's "muscular" but that's what I was told about my jaw for years until I finally found a TMJ specialist who requested an MRI. So no I don't trust Dr's!

Obviously if the MRI came back negative then I could have peace of mind and know it's just fibro! I honestly think I need arthritis medication/treatment. The fibro treatments aren't helping!

Go private .i don't no how it works out there but here u tell your Dr u want to go private and they then send a letter to the hospital or where ever .its no skin of there noses so mostly they will do it.
Good luck xx

Get another rheumatology opinion. If you think it is not FM, and is spinal, see an orthopedist or neurologist (or both) for your back and neck. One is more bone oriented vs. nerve oriented. Find one that specializes in spinal issues. Most ortho. docs are now specializing. I almost guarantee they will do an MRI. if it is spinal, you want one of those docs treating you.
If it is a spinal problem, don't fool with it. get it treated
Everything is so specialized today. but for us it is worth it to see different docs for all the issues.
I have several docs caring for me, and they work together as a team. I have internal med, gastroenterologist, neurologist, rheumatologist, dermatologist, opthamologist, and they all take care of my various issues.

I had a complete set of dentures by the time I was in my early 30's. Jaw bone erosion was rapid. I was recently diagnosed with Fibro and Sjrogren's. Didn't realize a prime symptom of Sjrogren's is bone erosion including TMJ joint, jaw, and other joints of the body. It is an autoimmune condition that is often secondary to other autoimmune such as RA, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and lupus, etc. I am a health care provider and your peace of mind is just as important as anything else if not THE most important. I would go to a Neurologist if you haven't already. And, if you can afford it, get a referral to a major hospital like Mayo, Shand's, Cleveland Clinic. They are there to focus on YOU and will take their time listening.

Good luck!

HI Cherrygirl, I was feeling the same way.. pain in lower back and neck and jaw pain (as well as all the other pains) I finally went to a chiropractor that took xrays that showed all the issues with my spine after that I went back to my primary doctor and advised her of the issues and she then ordered a MRI... and referral to a neurologist ... maybe a path for you to get the mri too.. good luck :)
