@johnsalmon - am 59 - 60 in Nov... not young, but not terribly old either... late middle? lol

and if Harpy gets all of those fused, she wont be able to turn her head very well, not being able to turn the head means no looking over the shoulder - like one would do to change lanes, backing up, and even checking traffic flow at an intersection - so no driving.

even just some long term relief would be nice.
at this point, i would be happy with even some short term relief... as a temporary measure until we decide on what to do for long term...

my bad ones are C5-6 and C6-7 with the latter being the worst offender... C6-7 is so bad that the doc that did the epidural injection had to go down one level to get in as there was just not enough space at that level to get the needle in.

the neck vertebra c2 to c3 are the ones that normally give problems
actually, no... C6-7 is the level most commonly affected by accidental injury, according to various studies done..

Speaking of studies... read something last night that kind of bothered me... Apparently the use of OTC nsaids like ibuprofen, can actually cause acute injuries to become chronic.. There is a paper that looks at this, pretty in depth... they reviewed over 500k files of acute low back pain (acute = sudden, short term injury like from a fall or other accident) and those that used ibuprofen/nsaids ended up with chronic low back pain later on; those that used other forms of temporary pain relief did not. The authors then followed up with studies done on mice, showing very similar results...

Now, this is just one paper, and it needs further clinical testing to prove/disprove, but the initial results are kind of startling.

The reason this bothered me is that I used to take ibuprofen - a lot...

Hi cookiebaker!
I am sorry for your disappointment….ugh. And sorry you have to wait three weeks for your next appt….yeesh.
Did u ask them at your appt. Yesterday if they could recommend /prescribe anything while u wait for your next appt?
I know you are trying to manage everything with minimal medications…
I was just wondering because I know there are many anti inflammatories besides the one you take…
Also…if your anxiety is ramping up your fibro or other pain….have you tried Hydroxizine? It is an allergy med….non addictive…and relaxes your body too. My doc recently prescribed it for me for anxiety flare ups…I have only used it…25mg(low dose) several times at night and it does work!

Also….how far along is your state (not sure where u live)in legalizing MM?

In Virginia where I am… the process is moving forward with MM licenses and dispensaries and an allowance of four plants per household…..I hope your state is not far behind…

Anyway….I hope you are feeling more hopeful today!💕🦋🙏🏽

Cookiebaker, I will go the late middle too lol I am 58-59 in June.

My movement are very limited, I can only look up with my eyes or hang to to something and lean back. To turn my head I can just get my ears level with the back of my shoulders, little further on the left .
I am permitted to drive in my local area (20km radius) I have been told I will lose my drivers license and to have a life from technically being over active to grounded at home is something I can’t imagine. Even in my bad flares I can get in my car and meet with friend for a cuppa. So yeh, nah. I am putting my surgery OFF.

My pain specialist goes through the front side of my neck to get the tricky ones.

Yes that’s definitely the most common, closely followed by the C5/6.
My levels apart from C3/4 are all buggered. Same advanced stages are C2/3 bilaterally. Left side C4/5. Bilaterally C5/6,6/7.

Oh now I wish I hadn’t read that last study 🤕.
Oh boy , you try to help yourself and end up worse off, funny though, drs tell you to take panadol, ibrufen ect 🤦🏻‍♀
I got my osteopath appointment shortly, so a lot of dry needling and cupping for some muscle relieving 🙂 to give those joints a rest from the tightness pulling me apart. G’day all.

I have all but C3/4 advance degeneration. ( basically bone on bone with very little disc matter left. My facet joints are about to give out , they look the size of a ping pong ball on imaging. They still call it wear and tear, but I correct them everytime, ( I very much dislike that term. NO it was from a guy on his mobile while drive that caused the damage when he smashed into my car, Not sure they like being corrected but it’s the truth.

Sorry for posting the same thing 3 times!

Just wanted to say Hi ladies….cookiebaker and Harpy….I am 58/59 too!

Woohoooo!

thank you MNP.

I live in Wisconsin, and we are no where near legalizing MM. Everyone around has done so, but not us.. Pretty sure our current Gov would like too, but the state legislature is opposing things.
Have never heard of Hydroxizine before, and after searching, i understand why - it is prescription only. Oh well... I will survive without more pills. I have tried other meds, and they just did not go well.. the last one - sertraline - was a bugger to come off of, even doing the tapering down as instructed i ended up with some withdrawal side effects that took a couple of months to clear up.
I am consoling myself with "it is only 3 weeks, not 3 months!" LOL

yeah... my worst is definitely C6-7 but the C4-5 & C5-6 levels also have problems.. directly from the MRI report..

fun times! whoohoo...

Cookiebaker, I will go the late middle too lol I am 58-59 in June
the reason I asked (I am 78) is I had a chat to my orthopedic doctor re my back and we both agreed that at some stage in life the surgeries have to stop (already had several surgeries done) but your in your prime of life

my thoughts are with you

Fun times ahead, ain’t that the truth.

Johnsalmon, my mom is in that boat, she needs two new knee replacements and both shoulders replaced. But can’t because of her POCD. She can’t go under anaesthetic. I see her “ suffer” cruel pain and not being able to help her.
I know know I will not live like that at her age, she will be 83 next month. I know I will be in a wheel chair before 70 and will not suffer for all those years watching her.

Thanks, but I dont feel very "prime" LOL
feel like I have been run over by a truck, had it back up and run me over again!

but I will agree that I am too young yet to be feeling this badly... the brain still thinks it is 30-something, LOL
And I often wonder how much of my pain is actually fibro and how much is related to the arthritis, nutrient deficiencies, and the hypothyroid... working on getting both of those latter ones sorted out (hopefully) and with any luck, eventually reduce the arthritis related stuff too... There are still so many things i would like to be able to do.

I see her “ suffer” cruel pain and not being able to help her.
so sorry to hear about your Mom I was a carer for my mom for 15 years she also could not go under anaesthetic to have a rod placed in her broken leg so had to endure a very heavy cast almost the same weight as her, she could not have a weakling in the aorta treated ( of which she finally passed away from)
we are lucky in Aus to have good free local nurses etc to treat, and shower etc the seniors in their homes and depending on your circumstances there is also good help and financial support for those doing the caring.
But I fully understand what you are going through

I think you mean COPD?
POCD is Pedophilic obsessive-compulsive disorder, probably not what your Mom has!

an allowance of four plants per household…..
[/QUOTE]
Oh my goodness. Is this an actual law? your only allowed 4 plants each house? 😳

I hope you get to do all the things you want to do @cookiebaker
💛🍀💛
