Hi, I'm am new to this forum but not to Fibro. I also have Lupus and ITP. I am so sick and tired of being sick and tired. I've been researching medical marijuana and it looks like people are having good results. I'm from NY. Is anyone here from the NY area trying it for pain and fatigue ?

TIA

Angela

I've been using CBD for awhile and it helps. Not a cure but, it helps. CBD is non psychotropic so you won't get hight taking it. Getting high isn't my objective, getting relief from pain and getting better sleep is. Also, TCM (traditional chinese medicine) acupuncture helps. Also important is diet.

I'm not looking to get high, I would like to try something more natural for pain relief and to help me sleep. I am currently on Sevella and not happy with the side affects at all, and will soon been tapering to get off of it :( I just don't know what else to do :/

Hi I'm from London, UK and have recently tried CBD [legal medical marijuana] in liquid form [no highs]. After more than 6 years my fibro symptoms have completely disappeared!! Its early days yet but I'm off all NSAIDs, my stomach pains have gone and my sleep has improved. Pain fatigue and anxiety relieved. it may be placebo, it may be temporary but I feel so much better. give it a go.

Hi Pendragon, I am in the UK too. Hope you dont mind me asking but How did you get medical marijuana for fibro...my understanding was that it is only available as a spray for MS.

May i ask who prescribed the MM for you?

Welcome to this site and i hope the improvement continues . NSAIDs don't really help fibro pain as they are anti inflammatories and we don't have inflammation unless there are other health issues.

Hi Willow, I read your posts with interest as there doesn't seem to be much on fibro forums about MM. I have had fibro symptoms for 20 years or so - getting all the help i can from the nhs, 'managing', but living a restricted lifestyle. My daughter suggested MM. She read about it on Facebook. I have never taken non-legal drugs and was apprehensive. But I am by profession, a researcher so keeping an open mind I found out as much as I could. After wading through all the pothead rants on the internet I came across impressive anecdotal evidence as well as responsible research. Because of its dubious legal status, evidence-based research on MM has not been as extensive as it is say, with NSAIDS.
There is an MM drug that GPs can offer but the nhs don't use it because its so expensive [except in Wales!] but it can be bought online. [I am reluctant to advertise its name on this forum] There are MM drugs [generically known as CBD] that exclude the psychoactive elements [the 'high'] of the herb so can be bought legally.
My online research led me to a source in the Netherlands which is organic and in liquid form.[ie not a wax or oil] It is a new product that only came into production in November 2016. again, I dont want to advertise here. It works for me and I just want to help people handle the real misery that this mystery ailment produces. if you want more info I can be contacted directly.

Hello there, yes, here in Maine, it is medically legal.I have been experimenting for 2years.I have found it to be very helpful to me.I had a time trying to figure out strains, what worked what didn't, and have gained alot of insight.I think I may have something to offer here. For fatigue, alot of people try sativa strains, sativa works as a dilater, can open up mucus membrains and give you some energy, open up you lungs, and bring up mucus, in tincture.I would tell you if you have anxiety issues, be VERY careful with sativa strains.I can only tolerate about a 40% sativa in any of my cannabis that I smoke. It is not a good experience to get stressed out and have paranoid thoughts if you have these issues already.Tincture, can be taken in glycerin, and alcohol form. That is different if I eat it or take a tincture, I can tolerate 100% sativa, and that will NEVER happen smoking it.I get alot of pain releif from tincture, and a lift for 3-4hrs.I mean a lift, say you don't sleep and you have to go somewhere and see a doctor, it can literally keep you up and functioning. It will make you edgy if you do to much or don't eat.If you have leg pain, I recommend a 80-90% indica, it seems to help alot with leg pain, especially below the knee.If you find it doesn't by smoking, I would eat it, or try in a tincture, it will make you sleepy if you take too much, don't drive on this stuff.Don't do anything important until you know how you react to the medicine.I would be careful with butter if you have headaches, and be super careful with the dosing with butter, it will knock you out, I get some good sleep when I eat butter if I dose properly.Ok so dosing for tincture, if you smoke, you can figure it out, start very small, just a 3rd of teaspoon.Everyone is completely different with this so you will have to experiment, but it can help to have an idea what you want from the medication.Remember it is not legal federally and I am just giving my experience here because it is supposed to help a medical cannabis patient, with Pain.Don't try this without a lic, or make sue it is legal, and always follow the advice of your cannabis prescribing doctor. You can get the dosing information from a doctor Sulak, a cannbis expert in this state, he is of integrate 8 and his information is out there.Hope this helps, they want it to replace opiates in this state, it should be good enough that they work togther, and science proves that.It also should be good enough it has helped me stay on a very low dose of medication.Good luck....

If you can get a script for cannabis, it does work for sleep, I use an indica strain, I recommend eating it or taking a glycerin tincture, 90% indica at least, even 100%.

Hello, yes I have tried it for pain and fatigue.Sativa tincture has worked for me for fatigue, and exhaustion as well as sativa hard candy, have experienced an opening of airways as well, dilater.I have also gotten a good nights rest many times from indica tincture and I have had luck with indica butter.Be careful if you have headaches with the butter. Also make sure it's legal so you know what's in it.In Maine it is legal to use cannabis with a medical card.If you smoke and have anxiety, be careful with the sativa variety, it can make it worse.Sativa literally means day, and indica, night. Many variations in between.Good luck, worth a try..

Yes, there are plenty of reports out there that cannabis has some remarkable properties, has been legalised in some states in the US and it is being recognised by the medical profession with the card system. However, it is not legal to smoke, grow or ingest or sell cannabis in the uk and doctors are powerless to help. Here is can up-to date and reliable discussion of the legal situation of CBD [medical marijuama] in the UK. http:////www.politics.co.uk/comment...nnabidiol-cbd-products-really-legal-in-the-uk
Although I am not anti-cannabis, i have never smoked it or taken any of its forms- i like to keep a clear head. From what I have read it is drawing it into the lungs and ingesting unknown and variable qualities and quantities of weed that cause ill effects -so I'm not about to experiment in my old age.
In anticipation of the legalisation of cannabis some small, legal, ethical companies - http://www.dutchnaturalhealing.com, http://cbdplus.com - have researched and developed measured, organic, safe compounds of cannabis without the THC [the substance that gives you the the illegal highs.] but containing all the beneficial elements.
The feedback and reviews for these sites is impressive and Facebook and youtube have illustrations of its powerful healing effects on animals and children. Of course it may all be 'faked' - so might this forum - but if you read up-to-date research; read the positive feedback of fibromyalgia sufferers, the reviews of reputable critics and stick to the key terms CBD/cannabidiol [not cannabis] a picture emerges of something truly remarkable.
On a personal note - i use a liquid form of CBD because it works fast and works out cheaper in the long run.

Just throwing in my two cents - I've tried CBD and didn't have great results from it. Maybe it was the supplier? I like to vape so if anyone knows a decent supplier of CBD I'd be willing to give it another go around. So far, so bad. :(

Hey Mikira, I would say that CBD isn't as effective as "all the active compounds" in medical cannabis.I would say get a medical card if you don't have one and give it another shot.I prefer a caregiver, and I know what is in my medicine.

If you live in the US you have access to many more legal CBD sources and can get medical advice - here in the UK its not so easy. I get my legal supplies from Dutch Natural Healing who also supply fibro sufferers in the US. They seem ethical and responsible. Read the feedback for their CBDactive+ - its impressive, a drinkable CBD - is potent and does the job for me.

Hi all. New to this forum, sadly not new to fibro; diagnosed in 2008 (took 2 years). I am male, 59, former med. lab tech.

I am a proud Canadian licensed under Hell Canada to grow and use medical cannabis. I'd been through every opiate on the planet, with the exception of fentanyl. While these pills did initially offer varying amounts of relief, over time an increase in dosage was always needed. I had heard cannabis was helping some people, so I simply asked, and fortunately my pain specialist was intelligent and signed the required documentation This was in 2010. Long-story short, after much experimentation, trial and error, I crossed a few high CBD strains to produce an indica with relatively low THC and high CBD. To be most effecive, I learned to ingest pre-activated cannabis as a coconut oil extraction. Smoking the same buds does help, but oral consumption is MUCH better!

Before cannabis, I was on 120mg morphine and 4 - 8 Percocets a day. With my medible butter, I am now completly off morphine and require 1-2 Percs a day, sometimes less, sometimes more. Flares are still a problem, as the breakthrough pain overwhelms even CBD + opiates, but the intensity and duration of these nasty bouts have decreased. I HIGHLY recommend anyone with chronic pain to have a serious look at CBD (cannabidiol) - it's truly a miracle compound, 100% natural, and non-psychoactive. Note that I am still experimenting with cannabis strains in order to compare the efficacy of varying CBD to THC rations, that is, how much of a role THC has in neuropathic pain control.

I'd be happy to share any info or knowledge so feel free to ask.

Have a pain-free day. Cheers.

DB

The problem with buying liquid CBD is of course, the price; a half gram bottle is ~$120 Canadian. Not having that sort of disposable income, I grow and extract my own at a fraction of that. Of course not everyone can do this, but for those able to, it may be the only way to medicate with CBD.

You commented earlier on something I am very interested in, the role of other phytocannabinoids in pain control. I know CBD, CBN and CBC all contribute to decreasing pain levels, but am still looking into how much of a role THC plays. Have you any info on this ?
