Quick back story, I was diagnosed with fibro late last year. . I was feeling pretty good about 2ish months and just recently I started getting headaches. These geadaches can last from an hour to days. Currently I've had this headache for 6 days. My problem is it doesn't feel like any I've had before. It's almost as if I can feel the exact spot in my brain that hurts. Like a nerve or something through the middle of my brain (mostly the right side). Today is worse, I woke up with it and I have shooting pains down the right side of my head, throbbing pain about 2 inches above my ear and pain throughout my jaw. My doctor has me taking Maxalt at the onset of headache which isn't working at all and now we're going to try putting me on a steroid for 3 days. Has anyone else had this? Suggestions? Please help!

PUSH for some diagnostic imaging, if you have not already done so. Good luck...Mike

migraines are the worst! I have had them since a child. The only thing that has helped was the Maxalt but unfortunately with fibro it isnt a good mixture. Maxalt constricts blood flow, great for migraine..real bad for circulation for the fibro . My triggers for migraines are sugar & nitrates...ya know the stuff they use in cold cuts, sausages basically anything to preserve meat... Dull diet, no migraines.. I know people rarely understand the depth of pain you must be experiencing. Know you are not alone on this journey.

I had a CAT scan and an MRI last year which didn't show anything but some calcification which my doctor wasn't concerned with. Think I should ask for it again?

I too have had migraines since I was 5 years old. For me, triggers are heat, ( I live in the high desert in AZ and it regularly gets in the 100* during summer), neck arthritis--with fused vertebra-- change of seasons, or if I physically work too hard. I was put on beta blockers in my 30s that didn't work and have tried many things since. The best thing for me is Fiorcet and ICE. It is taken when ya get a migraine, not to prevent one. I also have many headaches that are not migraines. Seeing a chiropractor and getting a massage is what helps most. Creams are great, and putting a drop of lavender on each temple helps relax. I also take Advil when a headache proves to be increasing, then if need be I can take a Fioricet w/out problems mixing the 2 drugs. Ice and ice again, I just freeze the neck area on the side of the pain. Be careful not to burn your skin, use a paper or dish towel, etc.

I wouldn't think you'd need another test that soon but I'm no Dr. I went to emergency a few time and had CT scans; all good. Try to find your triggers so you can avoid them whenever possible.
Hope this helps.

since the pain wast there last year, i'd ask to have another.
i have similar if not same issues. the neck feels like its struggling to support the head. i have TMJ and believe that plays a huge role. of course there are no specialists for that problem either. look into TMJ . there is a large bundle of nerves behind the ear that relate to every stress point from clenching jaw, tension headache, knots in neck and shoulder. it all can converge there. i push my knuckles in my head behind my ear where the skull curves. the muscles are very complex there. do youalso feel like your face hurts or your head has a giant rubber band around it?
prescription ibuprofen actually made the headaches worse. (rebounds)

Hi there,

I also have FMS/CFS. For the past two years I have suffered from chronic migraine. It never goes away I have a day here and there when it is less severe than other days but I def feel your pain. I have been on everything under the sun for it. I had two CT scans that showed multiple brain lesions that they are still trying to figure out. I have tried a five day IV therapy treatment called DHE that was mixed with a steroid. This only made me sicker. Have also tried tons of preventative meds, natural things, and now i am on a low dose of oxycodone. It is the only thing that helps a bit. I get about 4 hours relief with this and it takes the edge off. I am at my wits end as well. I hope it gets better for you.

I am now seeing a pain specialist for this and the fibro...

Good luck to you, keep pushing for answers and solutions. I am not giving up yet.

Lyndsey
