I am really having a difficult time finding someone in my area that knows what the hell they are doing or specialize in fibro and cfs.

The rheumatologist i went to that made my diagnosis was kind of rude and very impersonal and just shoved me off back to my primary doc for treatment.

Well, now she has pretty much kicked me out and told me to go back to the rheum doc because she "doesn't know what else to do".

See, I guess I'm a little difficult to treat because I can't take the "usual" medications like Cymbalta, Savella, Lyrica, Tramadol, or Gabapentin/Neurotin. I have had really bad adverse reactions to all of them. Plus, I can't take any opoids for pain (vicodin, percacet) because they cause what I call hyperbrain and make my insomnia worse.

I live in Franklin, Indiana (which is just south of Indianapolis) and the horrible weather we have been having lately has just made things worse. Right now the only things I am taking is an antidepressant (which really isn't helping much) and occasional valium for anxiety and to help me sleep. Ibuprofen takes the edge off the pain occaisionally so i can at least function somewhat, but the cfs is really kicking my butt.

I am really at my wits end. I am almost crying while writing this. Please can someone help me?

I'm so sorry to read you are going tru such a difficult time. Have you thought of giving alternative medicine a try? I'm currently taking medications for pain when is really necessary. I'm taking a lot natural supplements to help me with my energy levels, some days are better than others. I just don't want my body to get used to drugs. What is helping me a lot right now is a green tea supplement I'm taking, it's helping me to keep myself awake and full of energy (much better than before). Have you thought of giving natural supplements a try? Maybe acupuncture?

TJ, I'm sorry for all your troubles. I am going through the same thing. The rheumatologist I went to did the same - was rude to me and sent me back to my internist. In fact, I'm wondering if we went to the same rheumatologist because I'm in Indianapolis! Fortunately my internist is trying to be helpful but is not as educated as a specialist might be. So I'm looking for someone else as well. I tried Cymbalta but that made me feel worse. I'm on gabapentin which helped quite a bit at first but not so much now. I found a chiropracter in Noblesville that claims to treat fibro and use gentle techniques. I'm trying to just take it one day at a time but keep researching and looking for one or more practitioners who can help. Let me know if you have had any luck. (And yes, the weather here lately has been killing me.)

Oh, and I haven't been to see the chiropractor yet but plan to call and make one after the holiday madness is done.

Yes, I am trying alternative methods. Essential oils and something called MSM. I have an appt to consult with an accupuncturist this week. He treats my husband for other issues and says that he has had real good success with fibro patients. So I am hopeful. Thanks for your response.

Logy, my Rheumatologist was at St Francis South. Monev? I am really hoping the acupuncuture works, because when my FMLA runs out, I could be out on the street. Such a nice thing to have hanging over your head, huh?
