Hello, I'm obviously new here and a little lost but not as lost as I was. I've been dealing with intense chronic pain since July last year. I've been through x-rays, CTs and MRIs over my back and head to rule out disc problems, fractures, tumors, and MS. I've had a nerve and muscle study done which only resulted in very overactive nerves. The conclusion although not written as a diagnosis yet, I don't think anyways, is that its probably fibromyalgia. Every specialist I've been to thus far, the "f" word is the one that comes up.

So that's about the fibro, about me; I'm 31, stay at home mom of two girls and wife to a wonderful husband who has been a saint through all of this.

This spring I was fortunate enough to make a friend of my neighbor who gardens (and who has a wife and daughter who battle fibro and who have for a very very long time). Its a hobby I've always wanted to do but never knew anything about and he's been teaching me and helping me with my yard and I've been trying to help with his, and soon I think we get to start on his daughter's yard as well, whenever the weather decides to let us. I'm very weak, weaker than I thought I was, but I'm staying with it, and having a blast even when I'm dying by the end of the night, I've been trying not to let the pain get the better of me, but its really hard discovering that I have limitations but not knowing where those are, and hence why I am here.

Sorry for the long windedness, and look forward to meeting all of you.

Welcome . We look forward to hearing more about u. I've never been offer any thing more then blood tests. The only way to learn your limits is the hard way .and good for u finding something u love doing.just watch u don't set a flare off going to mad :)

When a flare does happen, how long do they usually last for? For the last month I've been going usually six days straight, sometimes seven doing something, even if its just a short bike ride, but two days ago I took a walk with the family and the dogs, husband took the worst of the two, and I had the other, 80 pounds but doesn't pull as hard. The 65 pound one pulled me to the ground last time I took her to the vet.. But since that walk I've been in a lot of pain, very sore and stiff. Some is muscles the rest feels like my joints want to leave without me.

I am new here as well. I have had my chronic pain for over 10 years. I am glad that you are finding something you enjoy. Take it easy, though, too! ;>)

Its great you are enjoying the gardening.. I do some , but limited..

With fibro we always need to keep moving.. Our muscles pay us back when we do ..but feel even worse if we do not!

Stretching our muscles are important.. You can find great stretches online..

I take some meds for fibro, low dose.. Bit get other help with topical pain relievers, heat, acuppressure...etc... Each of us has to figure out what helps us the most, and what is too much...

Yeah the stretching is where I fall short. Occasionally I remember to stretch, but its not all the time. I agree that finding something that is fun and rewarding physically as well as mentally has been a huge help. It doesn't matter how much I hurt afterwards, I look out my front window and see how beautiful everything is and will be next year and just smile and I feel better.

I wish I could take lower dose of everything I'm on but I think from where I'm at everything is just going to go up. I've tried some topical treatments (bengay, woodlock oil, tiger balm) and sometimes they help, heat hasn't at all, neither has massage. The only heat that has really helped, and maybe its a combination of the heat and the pressure and the fact that I love them so is when my dogs pile on me. They aren't small dogs though, 65 and 80 pounds all fight for space on and around me and we tetris ourselves on my love seat. It hurts sometimes but most of the time that's the best therapy I get.

Pets are a real gift! : ) we have many allergies to them to have in the house...but i love animals..

Well you probably get some stretching working outside
