Good morning! I am brand new here and I was just diagnosed last Tuesday. I know this affects everyone differently and everyone has different varying degrees of symptoms. Mine started about 7 months ago with some pain and foggy brain. Now I have pretty constant pain in my neck/upper back, rib cage, and spots kind of all over. The foggy brain now has me forgetting simple tasks I do every day. I'm constantly tired and wake up multiple times during the night. They started me on Cymbalta, but it's too early to tell if it's going to really work.

I think, I really just want to see what kind of things (food, exercising, possible mental tricks) work for everyone. I've been doing some reading, but I think hearing it from people already going through this would be much more helpful!

Here is a post in which I make all my best suggestions. I hope it is useful for you.

Do you feel that speaking with a Therapist and a nutrition specialist would be worth while?

For me it's sleep, exercise, meditate, repeat lol. With the rest of my life mixed in.

I have been talking to both but it's really up to you. I think a therapist can help develop coping mechanisms and help putting things into perspective. I have been seeing a nutritionist because I developed orthorexia and binge eating disorder as a result of trying to restrict my food too much in order to fix my fibromyalgia. and so the nutrition approach didn't really work for me. But I would recommend most of all a physical therapist to help develop an exercise routine and address any physical issues like posture or injuries that can be contributing to your pain. Honestly the PT I am working with has been the most helpful of everyone I have worked with (and that's a long list).

Thank you for the input! I have to figure out how to see a PT. My insurance has me paying $60 for ever session and thats a small fortune over time.

Yes I am paying out of pocket and it's more than that but I am desperate at this point! I have to work more to be able to pay for it but if she can get me on the right path so I can manage my symptoms on my own it will be worth it. My visits count toward my deductible but it's a high deductible so I am not sure if that matters right now.

Not sure why you are specifically asking about a nutrition specialist but instead or parallel you can do all the stuff sunkacola suggests about diet. When you've got to know yourself that well, they won't be able to help you much other than say the same... Having said that, I wouldn't've known about psyllium for the gut without a talk with one.

And the suspicion of Sjögren's (the idea of a center for rare diseases; the lip-biopsy-result is pending) has started made me think if my stomach & gut are "dry" too and have just found this webpage which seems to explain quite a bit I didn't know How Dryness Causes Burning Sensations & Stomach Ulcers - so once again one idea of a doc, even if it doesn't turn out, does help me on.
So continue reading and asking and trying things out at the same time as and looking & waiting for docs & PTs...

Exercises for your back & chest would suggest trying around a lot, but starting very gently in all kinds of PT-directions (normal PT, yoga, qi gong..), plus osteopathy or acupressure or similar.

Thank you so much for your insight! I have a lot of reading to do, but all of the suggestions have really helped.
