Pea

@Harpy
I have frequent skin cancers myself. I see my dermatologist on a routine basis. Never heard of what you mentioned. Can you tell me what your doctor prescribed it for? The name implies sun protection / broad spectrum UV protection. Can you tell me what this supplement or medication is for? Might be something good for me, and if a side effect is a decrease in fatigue that's a big plus

My skin cancer doc recommended I take it for my terrible sun damaged skin.
It has made a huge difference to my hair , nails and my skin heals so quickly if I’ve scratched myself.
Yes the biggest thing I notice was the energy I feel.
It’s give my back my B B Bounce lol.
I still have the fatigue but it’s not constantly bone aching.
This is the bottle. I also have the lip balm , it’s great too.

I have been taking it for a few months. The thing with these gentle natural alternatives is that they work synergistically as part of a stack.
So taking PEA with a bunch of anti inflammatory herbs and supplements has got me very close to the levels I’d get from NSAIDS. It’s a bit more work but you get to save your digestive system, and kidneys.

So I would say it depends on your means (because supplements can add up) and you willingness to take them (a handful). I get all my supplements from iherb.

I hope this helps.

The supplements I was told to use with the PEA Is a good fish oil and also magnesium. They have 300 in a bottle each .
I found them reasonably cheap. Just under $50 a bottle almost for a year , Much much cheaper than my usual meds.
Which I am going to cut down and hopefully come off once it’s recommend by my rheumatologist so he can control the tapering down.

An update on Taking PEA.
Personally for me I have definitely found its helping.
I take no pain meds in the mornings now, with help I have stopped the lryica, palexia, celebrex and morning dose of Panadol osteo. ( still on low dose prednisone for my poly)
Now it’s Just the PEA, Mega magnesium ,fish oil and solar care.
The morning stiffness has eased. What used to take a good few hours to get moving in the mornings I have found it’s only about half hour of discomfort to get moving.
Big plus I have started crocheting again 🥳 my grandson asked me to make his new winter slippers.
I still get the fatigue if I over do something but it doesn’t last more than a few days.
I haven’t had a headache in over a month.
I am sleeping better . Not full nights , (never been that lucky) but atleast I can get up without thinking I could stay in bed for the day.
I am hoping on cutting down on my night meds next month.
Then once I have recovered from the next round of RFN I will start cutting down then come off one med at a time.
Then I hope to continue without big pain meds. I know I will always have severe pain but if I can manage with the vitamins I will be happy.

@Harpy
That's great! I just started taking pea myself a couple weeks ago. I have some questions for you if you would be so kind as to respond.

How much and how often are you taking pea per day?
How long before you noticed the dramatic effect of pain reduction?
What brand are you using?

I'm taking a little over 600 mg twice a day. So far, I have not noticed any difference in my pain levels.

Thank you in advance for your help. Hugs!

I started noticing minor changes a few months in. 8/10 weeks abouts
What brand are you using?
I am using the same brand as the photo I put up just after I started this thread.

I am hoping to gain more relief as time goes on.

That's great, @Harpy!! I am so happy for you. And thank you for posting here about it. Every time someone has success with something it gives us more information, and gives people hope that it might work for them as well. I hope it continues to be a good thing in your life.

@Harpy
Thanks! Since I have been taking it for only two weeks or so, I will need to give it 6-10 more weeks based upon your experience. I appreciate the info. I'll continue with the brand I'm using for now since I can get it on Amazon. I just looked and your brand is way out of my budget. Hopefully, I'm using a reputable brand. I could not find many manufacturers of PEA unlike other supplements I take.

I forgot to ask my dermatologist about the skin protection formula last week. Since I also have sun-damaged skin and live in Florida, I'd like his opinion on that. I just hope it's not pricey cuz then it's a no-can-do. LOL. But, I don't have issues with my skin healing quickly or anything like that. No problems with hair or nails either so perhaps mine is not as severe as yours. Thanks for sharing that, too. Glad both are working for you!!

I appreciate your speedy feedback. :) Hugs!

Thanks @sunkacola and @JamieMarc.
Even if it get no better than this pain relief level I will be happy, I can manage it atm.
I am thinking once I am off most of the strong meds I should get a little more relief 🤔 and then to be rid of most of the side effects that come with these will be the biggest bonus. Oh then there will be the saving of all that money on buying my meds .
My skin cancer history isn’t good. I am back to 3 monthly skin checks because of my last melanoma.
Though I have never sunbaked. But when I had the first melanoma in 2004 I have been pedantic about my skin and sun screen. But the damage was done and now I just got to prevent any further burns.
I have always been shy up until my late 20 and would always “forget” my swimmers so I stayed in big T-shirt's and shorts.
Little did I know you can still burn through your clothes. 🤦🏻‍♀️ the face, legs, arms would burn many times in the summer.
Still can’t work out why my 4 siblings have never had anything frozen, no biopsy’s , nothing cut out or gone back for more to get cut out.
They sun baked with baby oil or reef oil. My brothers would never wear shirts in summer.
I noticed the changes with the solar care in a month .
I did find solar care much cheaper, think it was $39 I will go look back and see where I found it.
Good luck

I have not had melanoma, fingers crossed, but I have had more basal and squamous cell carcinomas then I can count. My worst skin damage due to Sun is on my neck and upper chest, also my face but the damage is not visible on my face.

Since I have not had melanoma I only go for routine skin checks every 6 months unless I noticed something unusual that needs to be checked out right away. I am an avid cyclist, hiker and Gardner, so I have invested in UPF 50 long sleeve shirts, especially when I go on long bike ride or to the beach. I also now apply sunblock everyday to my face neck and arms, the areas that are most exposed.

Since I did bake myself in the Sun as a younger man I'm surprised that I do not have worse skin damage than I do. Not only do I live in Florida and would sunbathe regularly when I was younger, I also have freckles and moles, a skin type that is more susceptible to cancers. I have had Mohs surgery twice.

I consider myself an intelligent man and as I said I'm doing everything proactively these days to protect my skin. It's something I'm very aware of every day and part of my routine.

Since yours is so much worse than mine, I don't feel the need to take the B3 supplement that you do, but I am still interested in asking my dermatologist about it out of curiosity. Same as you, a couple of my siblings have never had any issues with sun damage while my older brother I believe has. I guess it comes down to which parental genes are passed down to you. I don't know. We always used to joke that my little brother was the son of the milkman because his skin was always so much naturally darker than the rest of us. LOL

Keep taking good care of that skin of yours. I know from personal experience with a friend how devastating melanoma and treatment for it can be. Truly a very deadly cancer. I'm very happy that yours is cured, I assume, and the you you are also being proactive about it. Keep up the good work!

Hugs!

My first bcc was a tiny pimple on my earlobe that kept bleed and itch, the usual it would heal up and come back . I would forget to mention it a my gp app, when I did he did the biopsy and I was sent to the skin cancer clinic and a week later and they took my ear lobe off, but left with a cute pixi ear 🤣
I have had a few bad nodulating bcc one beside my eye, that one hurt, had the full thickness skin graft for that but it had attached to a nerve beside my eye so had a few rounds of radiation to kill it off. So many cut off my face I often joke that once they finally get em all I will end up with a face life 🤣🤣

Oh I love cycling, I have done many a big ride . Used to go on a ride that was called “ foreshore to foreshore, was 64 km , loved it , I used to ride up to visit my parents where they used to live, was 73 km, in my late teens when I was at my shyest I would go out riding my bike when it got dark. I miss riding. 😢

Walking , don’t get me started, I could walk forever. Once I had my kids they loved it, we would drive to a track and kids would be on their bikes and I’d have to keep up.
Yes I have the weird hats that do up so only your eye show. The sun safe shirt and more sunscreen than I care to use.

My parents heritage is Irish and English. My skin cancer dr once told me I need I have Celtic skin 🤔 and to got live in the snow, so I was covered from head to toe.

The B3 will still be of a benefit. Maybe more so , seeing you did sunbake.

I always felt like the bakers daughter , I have black hair and all 5 of my siblings are blonde. 😛

We all should watch our skins, melanoma can be missed so easily and so aggressive. Nasty stuff.
