Hi,

I have applied for SSD and I received a letter from them telling me I have to see a psychologist which is fine. My question is do you think this is a good sign, a bad sign or just a formality?

A friend of mine had to do the same, apparently it's the norm, they just want to see if you are lying or if everything is in your head. Bear in mind there are many people out there applying for this who don't even need it. So relax, I'm sure everything will be ok :)

It will definitely be a formality. Think about it, if they simply allowed everyone to state the condition that they had, you would have people claiming for money that they were not entitled to all of the time, which is no way to run a system. It is important that you see the psychologist, because not only would they be able to help with putting your claim forward, but they would also be able to make sure that you were getting the best help possible to help with the psychological symptoms of your condition. Please don't feel as though you are being specifically targeted with this type of thing - you are not - but they do have to make sure that every single claim they receive is genuine.

Gemma said it well, it's just a formality, a part of the process. At least they didn't refuse you straightaway, I know some people who were refused almost straight away! So it's definitely a good sign, just hand in there and do as they say. They need you to see all those specialists just to make sure your claims are legit, they need to make sure you are legit.
