Hello,

Male late 20s here. I was recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.

I have suffered from symptoms for the last decade, and only certain Doctors had deemed it chronic fatigue. After almost a decade of tests, Dr appointments, and Specialist appointments I finally had a diagnosis that at least made the most sense.

Brain fog, joint pain, exhaustion.

I was prescribed both antidepressants and anti seizure medication but the side effects scared me off.

Instead I tried some multivitamins B12 with the supplement SAM-e.

I started with 400 and made it up to 800mg a day. Besides slight stomach aches, it was the most normal I felt in a decade. I could focus and had energy.

It seemed though, after a few months on it the effects have worn off and I'm back to my exhausted self.

Anyone else have any experiences with SAM-e?

I haven't, but for anyone interested there's information about SAM-e: SAMe

S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAMe) is a compound found naturally in the body. SAMe helps produce and regulate hormones and maintain cell membranes.

A synthetic version of SAMe is available as a dietary supplement in the U.S. In Europe, SAMe is a prescription drug.

SAMe can be taken orally, intravenously or through a muscular injection. People generally use SAMe to treat osteoarthritis, liver disease and depression. However, SAMe can also interact with antidepressant medications.

I tried it years ago, before I even got the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. It didn't do a thing for me and was outrageously expensive. But what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another - your mileage may vary.

I'm also a late 20's male, interesting enough, and SAM-e is hands down the best pill I have ever taken to help with my fibromyalgia. I take the maximum dose (1200mg), and I find that it doesn't do much unless I take that. It helps enormously with energy and mood, which also helps greatly in dealing with chronic pain and not getting depressed about my condition. Also helps a good deal with brain fog, and lets me feel smart again.

I have also had the same experience with its effects wearing off, although I can say I did a year off of it after forgetting what a differences it makes, and after recently starting it again it has all the positive effects it had before.

I would try upping your dose to 1200 mg, I do this by taking two in the morning and one in the afternoon, I think it also helps to extend the effects and get through the whole day with energy. I also take a day off once in a while, and if I find the effects waning strongly I think I will take a week off, although I won't look forward to it! It has a short half life, and there is no danger in stopping your dosage.

Ultimately, SAM-e is indispensable for me, despite the cost, and the occasional stomach aches. I am curious about how it actually effects our brains and bodies to counteract some of the s&*&*y effects of fibro.
