I've been reading some stuff about Dr. AJ Holman having good results with treating Fibromyalgia with these drugs. Has anyone tried these therapies or had treatment from Dr. Holman before he retired?

ilovemygirlfriend, thanks for sharing. i have never heard of the doctor or the drugs you mentioned. thanks for making me do more research. lol.
just a word, it would help us if you put in some of the research you have done on these.

i will look into it and see what i can learn.

I recently read about the sodium oxybate(myrex) from a doctor who wrote a book ..not same doc...it sounded like a wonder drug. Puts u in deep sleep so ur body can repair itself. Unfortunately its not approved by the fda for use in FMS. And is very expensive. I think they r supposed to approve it sometime later this year. Ooh. On pins and needles!

I'm going to be looking for a good pain specialist. I'm hopeful someone can help. 15 years is long enough!
Any info on this drug I would love to know.

One day a at a time.

Could you please give me the name of the doctor and/or book? Thanks

ilovemygirlfriend, your a very great guy. your gal is very lucky to have you. you are setting a good example for all the spouses out there.
keep up the good work.

Thank you. Thats really kind of you to say. I really do love my girlfriend and I just want her to get better. It's important for all the spouses to be supportive, and sometimes all the fibromyalgia reading material is overwhelming. It's been good for her to have me helping wade through all the research.

So i've been really looking into the sodium oxybate treatment. The general idea from what I can gather is that a lot of doctors feel like unrestful sleep is a big reason fibromyalgia patients are in constant pain. Our bodies regenerate themselves during the "deep sleep" cycle of our rest, and many FMS sufferers are deprived of this sleep cycle due to alpha wave intrusions and other factors which inhibit "deep sleep". Sodium oxybate is actually the same drug as GHB, a date rape drug which became popular in the rave music culture for it's euphoric effects. The Sodium oxybate treatment is essentially to knock yourself out with GHB before sleep, allowing your body to reach deep sleep and restore it's nervous system. Other sleep drugs can't really achieve this, many such as ambien actually seem to prevent your body from reaching deep sleep. Sodium oxybate is one of the only drugs which induces deep sleep. Since it is not approved by the FDA for fibromyalgia, sodium oxybate is expensive and difficult to aquire through legal avenues. However GHB is readily available on the black market and is generally pharmaceutical grade. Having been used heavily as a recreational drug the side effects and long term effects are well documented and fairly marginal. I am in no way condoning illegal drug use, simply providing this information as the basis for independent research.

I'll Amen to that!
You are a rare breed.

You people are too kind. I don't really see anything extraordinary about trying to help the person you love. Its depressing to think that other husbands/boyfriends don't do the same thing...

Sorry ive been offline this week.
Name of the book is "figuring out fibromyalgia" by Dr. Ginevra Liptan. It is the best information I have found to date.
Its a shame that the best drugs to help us with sleep and pain r illegal.
The abuse by dummies makes it hard for us honest hardworking people who just need relief.
Nothing over the counter and even some prescription opiods don't help.
Hope this helps. I recommend this book. This doctor is actually opening a center for treating fibromayalgia patients in Washington ? Or Oregano?

ilovemygirlfriend,

If i may ask you, to please speak with a new member by the name of Tali.
she is hiding her fibro from her hubby. maybe some kind words from you might just help her and her hubby.

Thanks for being here and trying to help us and your girlfriend.
