I have been experiencing episodes of very strange head pain. Burning so bad it feels like my brain is on fire, combined with numbness, tingling, which gives me nausea and vertigo. Head is so bad it renders me unable to function at all, barely want to move. This can last several days. I have milder head symptoms off and on, like the tingling, headache. I have had an MRI, nothing. Checked for everything else it could be, nothing. It just feels fibro related. I take magnesium supplements which greatly help with the headaches. Anyone else experiencing anything like this or have any thoughts?

Hmm, these were all things I got from amitriptyline: any meds that c'd be causing it?

I am not on any medication for anything. 70 years old, normal blood pressure, good cholesterol, no heart problems, normal weight, basically no health problems except fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed with fibro 15 years ago and have handled fibro without medication (I have a high pain tolerance which my doctor thinks helps me, had my children natural childbirth), but this head thing is causing me to possibly rethink that.

Having a high pain tolerance does help a lot.
I wonder if you have tried seeing any natural health practitioner, such as a naturopathic doctor, or a doctor who integrates that into their practice? If you can, I would suggest trying that before you head down the road of pain medication, because unfortunately those often have side effects you won't want, and if you have not been on any you may have a low tolerance for them.

I am not proposing you go to someone who says they can heal you by waving their hands over your feet or something. but if there's a qualified natural healing doctor in your area, you might try that.

there is also homeopathy. I used to think that had to be utter bunk, but had to change my mind about it when a homeopathic vet resolved one problem after another with my cat, things 3 other vets had not been able to solve with medication....because cats don't know from placebo effect.

I figure that if something has very little to no chance of hurting you and you are inclined to try it, then do. Maybe something herbal or a change in diet would help.
I really hope you feel better soon.

Hi, I was diagnosed with fibro 4months ago and apart from the usual fibro aches and pains one of the scariest symptoms I have is scalp pain. It starts in my neck and travels up the back of my head. The pain changes from pins and needles to feeling like my scalp muscles are tightening and back again. I take naproxen during the day and amytriptaline occasionally before bed (only if I have had a bad day). The scalp pain is like having a bandage around my head that gets tighter and tighter. So you are not alone, I take paracetamol to get a break from it. It doesn't happen every day. As with fibro there is no specific trigger for my scalp pain it just starts at random. Hope this helps? 🤞

I always opt for natural remedies over medication so will check these out. Thank you!

No because having suffered with migraines for years (until six years ago) I knew this wasn't a headache or migraine. After testing and bloodwork, my rheumatologist feels it is a result of two discs in my back which are putting pressure on the nerves. I have started doing double my usual neck and back exercises daily and haven't experienced any strange head sensations since so will continue with this treatment. Thanks for responding though; this forum is always helpful in providing answers and new directions to explore.

You also might want to try to find a really good chiropractor.

Hi Nikkozoo,
I have had similar type feeling with severe headaches. I went to see a lymphatic massage lady. She asked when I walked in if I am prone to vertigo. I said yes, why do you ask? She said she could tell by the way I was walking. I actually went to her for lymphatic massage on my arm after breast cancer treatments, but my head hurt so bad that day she only massaged my head with essential oils. She noticed during the massage that my temperature changed a lot. One minute I was cold, the next I was near sweating. She said that could be POTS. I was tested for POTS last week and I tested ok (no POTS). After the massage, I immediately felt better and have not had more severe headaches (10 days now). Sometimes I still get a bit of a headache but not severe.
Hope and pray you feel better as those type of headaches are very debilitating.

Your response is interesting as I have also had vertigo and experience temperature changes from one minute to the next, however, no headache with mine. I have started doubling up on my head, neck and back exercises (previously learned during physical therapy for this problem) and they have really helped reduce the weird head feelings almost entirely. After extensive testing by my rheumatologist, she feels this is my back disc problem and the exercises are the best course of action for me. Thanks for your response, stay well.

I see you have found a solution, which is great. I am responding just to note that headaches can present in a variety of ways. I had "headaches" that were not typical, and I ended up having brain surgery.

This is good.
