Hi, I am a new member, undiagnosed apart from online as a possible. I had an appointment with rheumatology 2 days after the covid lock down started so that obviously didn't happen. Equally it has been more difficult to see my GP. My query concerns temperature sensitivity. I am permanantly cold, despite layers of clothes, when I do warm up I'm hot to the point of ripping clothes off. A shower is intolerable and a bath very unpleasant due to the change in temperature. The house is kept at 19/20 degrees and I have blankets on every chair. Any suggestions to cope with this would be welcome.

Well, obviously the best thing will be to get to the root cause of this as soon as you are able to see a doctor.

You might want to find out if there is telemedicine available where you live.

Other than that, I would say use heating pad and ice packs as needed. Not exactly a solution! But might give some relief at least.

Depending on your age, have you considered that this could be menopause? It's very common to have these symptoms.

Thanks for your reply. Definitely not the menopause, I'm 69. I'll look into heatpads, they sound bliss, & I'm hoping to see a Dr as soon as the schools are back (next week} and the surgeries are a bit quieter.

telemedicine has been around for many years now, and is increasing a great deal in use this year because of the pandemic. Basically it is doctors treating patients over secure video links (not the internet). On one end a clinic is set up (which may be just a room) where there is a medical professional such as a PA or nurse or community health person, and that is where the patients go. They come into a room and there's a camera and a video screen, and on the other end on the video screen is a doctor or a specialist who talks with the patient, talks with the medical professional who is with the patient, and can also see in real time what the patient looks like and hear that person describe what is going on. It is a way that people in far out rural areas have been able to get medical treatment when there's no doctor close by and they don't have a way to get to one that is perhaps over 100 miles away. A number of under served and poverty stricken areas are served by telemedicine.

Hi there - now in the summer my sensitivity to cold is like all my fibro-symptoms "cured" for quite a few hours by whole body cryotherapy (cold barrel), alternatively a short cold shower, which I've been doing since June - it resets my whole body, helps with everything even if I have to do it at night because of pain or overheating or sth.
However my sensitivity to cold will be put to the test in the next few months as the temperatures outside sink and I'm not sure if the benefits will continue. I sure hope so...

I also have these extreme temperature sensitivities and I tend to use ice packs and/or a hot water bottle. I dress in layers. I have a fan I can turn on. Not the greatest suggestions but I do find relief from them eventually.

When I start working again in 4 weeks and all rooms are being aired nicely, I will need a lot of warmth... Someone suggested an electric heating pad, because I won't have a microwave for a spelt cushion or hot water for a hot water bottle near me.
Dressing in layers (onion-like we call it here) is something I've been doing increasingly anyway. Now I have to wear a pair of thick woolly socks over my 3 pairs of cotton socks and two scarves (the top one is a ring, dunno what that is in English, but has elasthane, which makes me sweat and then freeze, so I have pure cotton under it). And it's not winter yet o_O I used to be the kind of guy who ran around in a T-shirt in winter... o_O

I too have this and I'm 8 years past the menopause. I say to people my thermostat has broken! I'm constantly cold from sept to march. I used to be able to sit in the sun all day long (before we knew it wasnt good for your skin) now 10 minutes and I'm in the shade. Im mew on here and not been diagnosed. Been to several gps and hospital with no answers. Our gp is diagnosing by email at the moment.

Jan (& Affinity & Barbara), didn't think of this before: Have you had your thyroid checked? In the rheum. clinic several people were talking about their broken thermostat, but it was Hashimoto and more...
