Over the years (I was diagnosed over 25 years ago), I used a variety of alternative techniques that were helpful. They were so helpful, that for years I was heard saying, "if I don't have the symptoms, I don't have fibromyalgia". So here is what worked for me (YMMV):
I had to resort to comfortable, loose clothes. Back then, it was common to wear pantyhose. Had to give those up. Also I switched to non-underwire bras. Everything for comfort. I still prefer comfort, even if it sacrifices fashion.
Dietary changes. I've done multiple things but the greatest gains were made when I eliminated sugar, grains (especially wheat and corn) and increased low carb vegetables and healthy fats. I've gone off and on dairy with varying results. What diets, specifically? I started with low carb (Atkins), I've done raw foods, and keto. Always felt best with these.
EFT/Faster EFT. If you're not familiar, you can see my friend's YouTube channel. Go there and search for HealingMagic (all one word). In that site, you can search for anything that is bothering you and follow along with the video. Robert Smith SAVED my life. I went to a seminar on weight loss. While there I asked him if the techniques can be used for physical pain and he wholeheartedly said, yes! The next week, I used his tapping method to get rid of a migraine and had one of the best days that I could remember at that time. I used Faster EFT to get rid of my physical pains to the point of denial of FMS.
Sleep issues: the first thing I found helpful were the Breathe Right strips. Opened up my breathing to make sleeping easier, and my hubby happy that I snored less. I then learned about a self-hypnosis sequence. This is life changing. Since I've used it for so long, I can skip to the last part and fall asleep almost anywhere in literally less than a minute. Let me know if you want a copy of this to try.
I get monthly massages from a therapeutic massage specialist. She is awesome and responsive to my changing needs. No cookie cutter style with her. Be sure to interview a potential massage therapist to be sure they know about FMS and have experience with it. Also be sure to SPEAK up about the pressure. Don't suffer now and then also later. Be sure to stay hydrated with massage to keep the toxins moving out!
Speaking of hydration. This has also been something I am a fanatic about. You need to drink AT LEAST 8 glasses of quality water every day. At first I had to add lemon to start to like water. Now, water is the only thing I drink. I do enjoy Hint water (with fruit essence) as well.
I had been without symptoms for over 20 years until a recent rear-end multiple car accident. I had chiropractic treatments and all my other stuff but suffered a flare like I can't remember. I'd rate my pain between 6 and 8 on the 1-10 scale. I'd wake up in tears many nights. I'm sure some of you can relate. My friend called me to check out a new frequency device. She didn't know I had been in such pain but knew I'd like it. Anyway, I had an hour session and had 8 hours of pain relief. I thought it was a fluke but the pain did return that night. I asked her for another session the following week and had similar results. I couldn't believe it and I know you probably don't believe it either. I had to have my own device. I have had it for 2 months and found that I don't wake up stiff and achy anymore. I'd love to tell you more about it if you're interested.
Please be gentle to yourself and practice self-care.
