Hello. I'm new to the forum. Just finally desperate enough to try to reach out for help. Here is some history (and sorry if I ramble or don't make sense, I'm having a bad day and feel like my brain isn't functioning at it's full capacity.
Several years ago I started noticing unexplained pain, it would hit me in random areas of my body, for no known reason.
I didn't bother telling my doctor because the areas of pain kept changing and if I had pain in my knee and couldn't walk for a few days, by the time I could get an appointment, the pain would be gone and moved on to another area of my body.
Finally I said something to her and she did the tenderness points evaluation. I scored 18 out of 18. Since than I started seeing another PCP and kept her as my psychiatrist (she has a mixed practice and does primary and mental health).
After I started with my new doctor I was diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis and began treatment for that. I told my doctor about my former doctors belief that I had fibromyalgia but he just disregarded that and said the pain was likely from the Hashimotos.
I've been treated for that for almost 2 years now. My thyroid levels are under control but the pain continues to worsten.
I'm running into the issue that my current PCP doesn't recognize fibromyalgia as an actual condition, but thinks it something you diagnose patients with if there are no other issues.
Obviously that's no help to me. I would like to find a specialist but have been told that rheumatologist and neurologist no longer take fibromyalgia patients.
I don't know who to see, I need someone I can call on days like today when I'm having such a flare that I can't think straight and my body is shaking on the inside...hard to explain...like when you're cold and you fill like your trembling on the inside.
Does anyone know what kind of specialist will treat fibro? Also, any suggestions for helping my family understand what I'm going through. I know they're confused because somedays I'm able to do so much and other days I can't keep my eyes open to save my life. And of course there are the days that I'm in terrible pain and trying to parent my 3 children but I'm grouchy and doing a terrible job because the pain is so intolerable.
My hope with reaching out to all of you, is to find others who are going through this. For support and for advice on how to deal with this terrible disease that no one seems to know enough about.
Thank you for letting me ramble!
