So I'm always looking for instant topical relief! Prescription was exspensive and I built a tolerance, capzasin I had to dilute, wash my hands very well and somehow got it in my eye one night. Muscle rubs didn't give relief for more then a few minutes.
My new favorite... I melted coconut oil added a few drops off clove and put it in a spray bottle. It works better then anything else I've used, almost instant relief, last hours and is very inexpensive!
I would love to know if anyone else has tried this or does try it and how it works for you.

I use a coconut oil and marijuana pain cream. It's the only thing so far that I have found has worked to some degree.

I make a topical liniment for my local hospitals pain clinic. I use organic habanero pepper powder, coconut oil, turmeric (for inflammation) and few other 'secret' ingredients. I personally cannot use it due to nerve issues, but I constantly get compliments on how it has given people their life back. One gentleman had told his doctor (my friend) his shingles had kept him awake for years. The night he tried my special liniment, he said it was the first time he slept through the night, pain free, in many years. I have a friend with MS who keeps some in her purse everywhere she goes, and her husband swears it is the best thing he has ever used for back pain. Mu husband, and his entire crew at work all swear by it. The biggest issue I have had was creating scents that people find pleasing (the ingredients have their own odor that most do not ind soothing.

I fully support people thinking outside of the medical box we are often lumped into, as if we all dealt with pain in identical ways. I spent many months adjusting my recipe to the one I use now, and although i cannot use it, I am truly thankful it has brought others relief. I do suggest to those who want to make their own topical pain treatments, try various methods, ingredients, cook times etc. It is surprising how just cooking a little less, or longer, really impacts efficacy. Or even a simple teaspoon of an ingredient can make a profound difference.

Whenever I make a batch, I am actually able to wear my rings because the swelling in my hands is so reduced. Amazing stuff!

This is not meant to sound funny but if you have bad pain all over do you guys cream yourselves all over???

I have very sensitive skin so have never tried a rub and have bad reaction to strong smells too so maybe linaments/rubs would not suit me.

Quick answer Willow? Yup! lol

I sometimes smell like a joint! I use it on my neck, shoulders, arms, hands, back, butt, legs and feet. Depending on what is causing me the most pain. Although for the past two months, I have had severe pain in my elbows and radiating up and down my arms, my shoulders and increased in my hands. Trying to get into a new rheumatologist to see what this new pain issue is....My pain cream isn't touching this right now... :-(

Terbaer and Gypsyrose Texas hasn't legalized mj yet, but that is interesting topical. I don't cook it just shake it but I think I may try adding the turmeric and that will have to be infused. But would feel great on my hands : ) How long do you cook it? Not sure about the peppers as that goes back to the cautions/negative exsperiance I've had with capsasin. (I rub my eyes to much)
Willow, yes I use it every place but my female area. I use coconut oil there. If you try the oils I would skip the pepper also due to your sensitivity. Very little clove oil and you could add some lavender for smell and medicinal.
Terbaer, I have had the pain in my arms, elbow, wrist and hands for months, before I got in with reumotolgist I had panicked and gone to the ER (it initially was only on the left side). My rummy has reassured me it's part of the fibro. I hope that's reassuring until you can get in with yours.

Eyesup, interesting you experienced an increase in the left side first also. I sure hope it isn't just part of fibro. It sits at about an 8 or 9 pain level and wakes me up most nights for the past two months, where I usually sit at a 6 these days. I'm praying the new rheumy comes up with something to lower my overall level back down. I'd be happy with 3-4.

I had a heart attack in October 2013 so have been on Lipitor (Atorvastatin). Pain management specialists (multiple) have said statins increase pain. On my annual follow up last week, I mentioned it to my cardiologist, who looked at me and said, "Well, let's check this out and see if it's true! Stop taking your statin for a month. Follow up with me. If your pain levels are less, we'll use something else to control your cholesterol. If they don't change, then you can rule out that as a concern for increasing your pain." I was floored. So, I'm off the Atorvastatin. We'll see within the month if it makes any difference.

It's so nice to have some specialists who really listen and are willing to try even the smallest changes to see if quality of life improves. Thank you for your comments.....Gentle hugs...

terbaer, Ask your doctor about using Gemfibrozil for cholesterol. It does not cause the terrible muscle pain that statins do and it might work for you. I have used it and had no severe pain.

Thank you for the suggestion 1Sweed! So far I haven't noticed a difference, but it's been less than a week. I wrote it down and will ask the cardiologist about it on my followup in April.... :)

I am not conversant with any instant relief formula. Any intervention is welcome as long as it offers hope and doesn't affect health. I also join the fray to propose massage which reduces muscle tension and ease pain in muscles and soft tissue. It improves circulation and sleep. Just 20 minutes of moderate pressure massage can lower the flow of chemicals associated with pain and stress while increasing production of melatonin.

Great suggestion Remnant. I know some aren't able to tolerate massage because it is too painful for them. I have found that I do better overall with a 1 1/2 hour massage every three weeks. While I'd love a 20 minute one each night before bed, I'll have to win the lottery to have someone do this. :) Partly because hubby works out of town Monday through Thursday.

I agree though that massage therapy is a great tool for fibro sufferers. My massage therapist is great when I'm having my pain flares, she just lessens the pressure and applies it deeper where needed as well.

Remnant, I'm not sure if your if your saying your not familiar or don't believe in any instant relief, but to clarify "instant" =works within in seconds of application for me, cheep=application costs penny's. And unless your allergic to coconut oil or Clove it's not only safe it would probably be great if I could afford to have masseuse available at 2am when I wake with sharp shooting pains running down my shoulders and back. Cheep, affordable, quick relief for me that I thought I would share. ; )

I use a coconut oil and marijuana pain cream. It's the only thing so far that I have found has worked to some degree.

I am always amazed with the medical use of marijuana. Tell me terbaer, does that pain cream really relieves? I think more and more plants can help, if we do research properly.

Oportosanto, it definitely helps to relieve the pain. Of course it isn't a cure, but it's nice to have some relief. I often put it on my low back, butt, shoulders, and down the arms at night before bed. I sleep for a while, then wake up with pain, so will sometimes get up and rub it on again. It's stained some of my pjs, but oh well! I should use it more than I do, because it does help.

I want to learn how to make it myself. I buy the stuff I use from a friend of a relative. It's less expensive than buying from a mmj shop, but I'm still paying for it. If I grow myself and learn to make it, I will only have to buy the coconut oil. It's on my to-do for sure!

Is Florida a mmj legal state? I guess either way, I'd say, find some and try it!! ;-)

Lol. I didn't mean for this to become a mj relief topic!
I'm a huge advocate for legalizing it for numerous reason. (And I don't smoke it and never have) I don't understand how the government can approve drugs like lyrica and cymbalta and illeaglise something that almost anyone can afford (grow), I've never heard of an overdose, it treats so many conditions often more affective then what's on the market, but instead they waist our tax dollars chaising down growers/dealers that wouldn't exsis if it was legal. While the pharmacsuitical companies get rich selling us dangerous, over priced drugs that you often have to take another pill to deal with the side affects of the other. Never heard of anyone's liver/kidneys failing from mj.
But hear I sit in Texas, a state were its still ileagle in any form! So I am reliant on what I can get legally. So I'm not dissing the marijuana talk at all, but for anyone that can't get/use mj, this is a great alternative.
Keep on sharing, I'm hoping my husband will accept a job offer he has in Colorado and that will be a game changer for me.
