My pain specialist has recommended low dose naltrexone (LDN). In high doses (50mg+) it is used to treat addicts, but in low doses (3-4 mg) taken once at night it has been said to significantly help the pain, energy levels and mood caused by fibro and some other diseases. It's very cheap, around $40 a month without insurance.

Currently I am on narcotics to help with the pain but they have so many side effects and I'm still very debilitated. I am really considering this, but I am afraid of the period between going off the narcotics and starting the LDN. You can't take them together and it could take a couple of weeks to take full effect. My pain is so bad I can barely fiction as it is, I don't know if I could handle the full amount of pain even if it is just for a few weeks.

I would really be interested in knowing if anyone has tried this and how it worked for them before making the switch.

This is one of the many meds my sister has tried for her awful back and neck pain, she had a hard time during the period she had to stop the narcotics, but she was ok later. It did work for her, but again not all medications have the same effect on everyone. If you are really concerned about the side effects of the narcotics then you should really go for it.

I've done a lot of research on LDN, & am dying to try it, but I am on Tramadol for my pain. I have tried to wean off it, but currently my pain is so bad that I am unable to do so. I can't take NSAIDs because of leaky gut, so I am stuck! If anybody has any suggestions please let me know. You have to be weaned & clean for at least 5 days before starting LDN therapy. Also it MUST be compounded. I know a few trusted compound pharmcies if you need them.

I have never heard of this pain medication. I am going to research it.
