Today I tried a sleep pill, and it only made me dehydrated, anxious, and drowsy (but not able to fall asleep). Last couple things I've tried have been equally ineffective and had bad side affects. I'm just so sick of convincing myself to try something that I think/hope will make me feel better, only to respond weirdly and feel worse than before I started. It gets really annoying, spending time/money/hope on things that get me nowhere with my symptoms! Blah... okay my rant is done.

Hey Ryan88, I get it. I have that happen all the time. It does get frustrating sometimes. I don't have normal reactions to meds or muscle relaxers that others have. I was just getting on to rant about my insomnia. I can take a sleeping pill (usually if I take anything it's ambien). Most of the time anymore it doesn't do anything. Melatonin does absolutely nothing. Heck, even after doing the do, I'm wide awake, while the hubby snores away...LOL. Okay, so I have a half-hearted rant after reading your post. Chin up. We all have down days, but I know I'm learning to cope. Reading other people's rants helps me to know I'm not alone.... :)

Thanks terbaer, it is good to remember that we're not alone. I've been learning to cope and see the positives more in my situation more lately. Symptoms or no symptoms, I've still got a life to live. I hope and pray that you find relief and ways to cope. Thanks again

It sure is nice to have a place to go when we need to find strength....Take care Ryan... :)

Have you tried amitripoline ,it's the only thing that lets me sleep. Without it I'd be wide awake all night every night.

I took amitriptoline for several years. It worked so/so, but gave me such dry mouth. My dentist scared me to death when she described what it can do to your teeth and gums. I then tried Nortriptoline and it was a little better, but again so/so on the sleep. I went off of it for a year or so, but was put back on it because it helps IBS as well, I'm told by my gastro. We're trying to figure out whether I was having a colitis flare or IBS (which I developed years ago, but didn't have problems with until last year when I developed a rare form of colitis). I had another colonoscopy and it was determined that I was having a horribly bad flare of colitis so my gastro specialist had me wean off the Nortriptoline. It wasn't really doing anything anyway. So I'm down 3 meds as of this week! Yea! I was taken off my heart meds and the Nortriptoline. Again, yea!

I've never been able to stay on any medication long enough to know whether they are helpful, my side effects are too severe. Amitripoline is the 2nd thing my Doc gave me to try. I lasted 3 days then had to stop, not sure how to describe it other than I felt drowsy but got anxious, and felt "outside myself". I'm currently working with a naturopath and we did some tests that found out I have Candida & some parasites. So I'm hoping & praying that by getting these out I will start to feel better on my own. It's nice to have some real causes to go off of.

That's great Ryan! I hope your naturopath can help and at least you've found some things that you can take care of. Sending a prayer your way! Keep us posted on how you're doing.... :)
