Hi All,
I've had 3 years of pain getting worse and worse and saw dr after dr and had numerous mris, blood tests for thyroid, etc....
Finally went to a Rhumo and was diagnosed last month w fibro.

My grandma had it as well.

here's my question--- i only have the pain in my face-- its on both sides--- yet the right side is worse than the left. its from in back of my eyes (which causes dry eyes and i can no longer wear contacts) to going down my cheeks and then pain into my jaw.

the face pain is horrific-- but i have pain in no other part of my body.

Which is what gets me to wonder if its Fibro or Trigeminal Neuralgia (sp)-- even though they say that's only on one side of the face.

Can you only have Fibro pain in the face?

Thanks for any advice. The Dr put me on 60 mg of Cymbalta and I also use an infrared sauna at home-- unfortunately I'm not seeing any relief from either

Aimee

Fibro has to be in all 4 quadrants of the body to be properly diagnosed. there is something called myofacial pain syndrome that can affects individual areas.

Tn will affect whichever side of the face the nerve is playing up so it could be both sides.i have terrible face jaw and head pain with stabbing eyes too but i have full on fibro all over.
It could also originate from your jaw..have you heard of TMJ disorder.

Do you know why the rheumy came to the fibro diagnosis.

You might be better to see a neurologist who may have better understanding of your condition...good luck

My fibro first manifested as constant shoulder pain after I underwent rotator cuff surgeries. Over the next two years I was poked and prodded, x-rayed, scanned, you name it, but no diagnosis came. My G.P. sent me to a pain specialist, to see if he could come up with a cause. A few months after first seeing this doc I experienced pain in my legs. This is what made him check for fibro, using the pressure point test. My score was 15 out of 18.

I was a right-place right-time thing: I was with a doctor who knew what to look for when I first presented 'fibro-like' symptoms.

My point is that FM can manifest in many ways, and can take time to fully .... develop. Yet another reason it's so difficult to diagnnose.

Fibro can happen in every part of your body.you may find one day it moves somewhere else.or it may stay where it is.most of us have what I call the main site of fibro.one part of our body that hurts the worsed.so for you that would be your face.fingers crossed that where it stays.x

Recently I was watching a show on Trigeminal Neuralgia - it is also one of those awful pain conditions, a little mysterious as to how it happens - just like fibro.

Yours does sound very much like that - but since a doctor diagnosed you with fibro...it is hard to say. Did he do the trigger test? how many of the complaints do you have that are often associated with fibro? (waking up unrefreshed, IBS, fatigue, concentration problems etc.)

I read a lot on both illnesses and go back to my doctor. You need a definite and right diagnosis so that you can really get help. Hang in there!

Hi Sheltielover,

I have a sheltie too and I love her lol.
To me.
It doesn't present like Fibromyalgia and Im surprised he diagnosed u with that.
I would get another opinion from a different dr and go from there.
Fibromyalgia is usually in different parts of the body, just the face doesn't sound right.

Feel better
