Hi I've been struggling with my health for about 25 years. Specialists have told me it could be RA but I don't have swollen joints. Others have said it's a virus that needs to work its way out of my body. Others have said i have hypermobility as I was a gymnast when younger. Others cite fybro and I now think that must be it. I really started to think it may have been a virus that's gone but on Thursday eve I started with one of the worst flares I've had in about a year. Taking painkillers only slightly help and they make me feel sick. The pain has been so bad I've been in bed till today (Sunday) and I'm worried that as I get older ( I'm 50 now) I won't be able to cope any more with it. I suppose I'm wondering how other people treat their pain when they have a flare. When I'm not ill I am generally very well. I go to the gym and exercise in moderation. I have a part time job that I enjoy but it can be a bit stressful crawling on the floor with a toddler with health needs. I do get exhausted and very tired with joint aches but this passes usually but this has been horrendous again and I think I need to be more proactive about treatment if necessary.

Hello! So sad to hear you've been struggling for so long. There may be some pain medication that your PCP can provide to you that may not make you nauseous. I take tramadol and I don't have any illness side effects - but if I take Vicodin or something like that, forget it. I'm not sure how it works in the UK, if you have pain management doctors, but I would suggest getting in touch with one or some sort of specialist.

I hope wellness for you! Even if you struggle and suffer, you're not alone and you're not weak. I think folks tend to get a bit down on themselves feeling as if they're losing out on everything and face adversity when dealing with chronic illness. I hope these forums help you. I've only just joined as well, and I'm hopeful for some commiseration and suggestions as well. :)
