My mother used to buy muscle relaxants and instruct me to thoroughly massage the area around her shoulders. It usually took about 15 min. The problem cleared on its own accord. Nowadays, she complains of severe headaches and bone pain especially after performing manual tasks. She sometimes attributes this to her long service as a manual labourer in a coffee factory. Could she be suffering from fibromyalgia?

That's not a lot to go on, does she have pain anywhere else.

It sounds like the kind of aches people get as they age, very normal. If she was having pain in several parts of her body at once, even right after waking up I'd think there is a problem. My mom has fibro just like me, but hers is much worse, it seems age has made it worse. I'd not worry about your mom having fibro, odds are she might have a RMD. But fibro? I highly doubt it.
