I have had FM/CFS for over 10 years but recently have been experiencing pain from my wrists through my fingers making it difficult to grab things. I am not sure if an orthopedic dr can help or if this is just my fibro advancing into my hands. I have tried heat and anti-inflammation drugs but no relief.

Has anyone had this symptom and how did you relieve the pain?

thanks,

Hi, I have also been experiencing a lot of pain in my hands. First they felt like they were swollen, but now they ache as well. My feet are also doing the same thing. I had to wear a bigger pair of shoes because of it. I went to the doc about it and was told that were not swollen enough. What ever that means. He did a test for carpal tunnel and said I did not have it. So now I am going to another doc. Have not tried meds for it though. Heat does help better then the cold for me. Maybe the cold might help you better though. Good luck.

Osteoarthritis often strikes the hand before other areas of the body. year of grasping , pulling, and pounding wear cartilage away, leaving bear bone in the joints. Sometimes arthritis develops without the tell tale swelling most people associate with it.

It would probably be a good idea to see an orthopedist.

I had pain at the base of both thumbs. My regular doctor ordered xrays and, upon reading them, said he saw nothing wrong. He sent them to the orthopedist and, sure enough, there were teeny tiny osteophytes poling around both joints. The bones spurs were the result of osteoarthritis in my hands.

When in need, get an expert.

Seeing an orthopedic doctor would probably be a good idea. He/she could help you determine whether you have carpal tunnel syndrome or not.

I was diagnosed 17 years ago with carpal tunnel syndrome and then about three years ago with arthritis in my fingers. I can definitely sympathize with you and your hand pain. I have started adding a topical cream to my regular regimen of anti-inflammatory drugs and natural remedies. I rub the ointment or cream on the places on my hand and wrist that hurt or feel swollen. I've tried arnica-based gels and creams with MSM and glucosamine. They both work some, but I've had the greatest success with the creams that have multiple ingredients.

When you say 'greatest success', how great would you say it is? Is your pain a little better or a lot better?
I need to get some of that if it helps you a lot!

I've been suffering from a lot wrist and finger pain since I was a teen, actually. Not sure if it's connected to my fibro or if it's actually linked to some sort of arthritis. I doubt the reason is related to the latter tho, mostly because I got to see several specialist, but all of them agreed my pain wasn't caused by arthritis (I was just 18!). The pain is worse during winter tho... but sometimes strikes suddenly, even during summer! I just ignore the pain, it can last a couple of days, so I try not to apply a lot pressure on that hand. Using medical marijuana has also helped me with the pain, but I know marijuana is not for everyone :)

I get the same pains in my hands. I think mine is caused from excessive use of the mouse and keyboard. I work on a computer all day and have my hand resting on a mouse during that time period. It is not the way that we were meant to live, that is for sure. The ergonomics of it are just not proper in any way shape or form. I do a lot of hand stretching to help with the pain. I also wash my hands with hot water 5 or 6 times per day at a minimum.

I am a sales rep for a compounding pharmacy making transdermal pain cream. We have a set of common compounds and we can customize. It is very easy for your doctor to order. We have pre printed script pads, the script is signed by the dr. and faxed to the lab. The lab contacts the patient to let them know if the cream is covered by their insurance and any co-pay that would be owed. There are never any surprise bills. If its not covered, they can tell you the cost. Thanks

Hi I have the same hand pain as well, can you please send me the script, I would participate it. I know my hand pain is from fibro, I have been suffering for nine months now.

Another idea might be to try using wrist and hand splint supports. I was having bad pain in my hands and my doctor suggested I try wearing one on each hand to bed at night. After doing so for about two weeks the pain was noticably less in both hands. These supports are made from stiff cloth with velcro straps so you can adjust them for comfort. They could be wore during the day as well, as needed.

Or wearing gloves during the day, can help relieve the pain and provide some support, plus keep hands warm which helps arthritis symptoms.
:)

Sweed is right on about the gloves. I have tried wearing them during my shift at work and it really does help. They keep the temperature so low in my office that the gloves act as nice hand warmers. They reduce the vibration from the keyboard tapping and mouse clicking. It's the small things that add up to make the big differences.

If anyone is interested in the Transdermal pain cream product that Tashacam was advertising on this forum, please ask your own doctor about it. Ads are not allowed on this forum. We try to keep this forum safe from anyone trying to make money off the suffering of others. I understand that this cream helps with the pain of neuropathy. So do your own web search for information and then ask your own doctor his opinion on how effective it might be in your case. Thank You! :)

I never intended any harm! I was only trying to help! My best friend has fibromyalgia. She is the one who told me all about it and I am there with her going threw the painful ordeal she went threw at times! Her doctor prescribed it for her and it really helps her out tremendously! I did some research and learned more and became a rep for our local pharmacy.. while I am a rep I was not trying to advertise only help as well as educate. People do your research! Yes please ask your doctor about transdermal pain cream they really do work! Again I am sorry if I caused any problems in the group! That was not my intention! Everyone take care and I wish you all the best!

I have had surgery for carpal tunnel as well as tendonitis. After the surgery (both at the same time), I went to hand therapy and she said that most people sleep with their hands curled under which in turn cuts off the blood supply and it can cause carpal tunnel. It may have helped cause mine, bt for the most part, I worked at a computer for 8 hrs a day. After about 2 yrs, I had to resign.

I forgot to add. Aside from the surgery, due to fibro, I have burning in my hands and they feel like they are twice the size, but they are not swollen. That has nothing to do with my surgery, I believe it's the fibro.

I also suffer with swollen feeling/hot hands and feet and it stops me sleeping its so uncomfortable. Cold helps relieve the hot feeling but only makes the pain worse.... Baths help but only when I'm in them! I had carpal tunnel when I was pregnant and the fibro swelling/ pain feels different in my opinion.
