My name is Shelly and I'm from Melbourne Australia. I am 38 years old. I am married with 3 children. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia when I was 20 but have shown signs of it since I was around 7-8 years old. When I was 8 years old I was diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome. Thank goodness I have 99.9% grown out of it. I recently went to a specialist here in Melbourne for my FM and walked away very dissapointed. In all these years I am yet to find a doctor to help me. I live on over the counter pain meds most of my life. I have come onto this forum to see if I can find a good doctor here in Melbourne that would be able to help me. I am getting very tired. It's not easy having FM. I am lucky to have wonderful understanding parents that listen to me on my bad days, but I'm also happy that there are forums like this to chat with others who are going through what I am feeling each and every day.

Welcome, Shelly! I can't help you when it comes to finding a doctor anywhere in Australia, as I've never even been there, but I can assure you that you'll find a lot of help with coping on this forum.

I'm Sarah, and I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia last October, but was diagnosed with arthritis several years ago. I've had health problems most of my life, but it took until I was 26 for the chronic pain to begin. I'm so sad for you that you've lived with it most of your life - I haven't been able to tolerate this past year!

Welcome to the forum Shelly. I can't help in the doctor search either but hang in there, this forum is loaded with members from around the world and hopefully someone will offer up a doctor who can help you.

In the meantime please take the time to look over the different topic sections and read those most closely connected with your symptoms in hopes you will learn some new coping skills and hints, toward management of you condition.

Look forward to seeing your name around the forum. :)

Hi Sarah. Thank you for writing. I'm sorry to hear you also have FM and arthritis at such a young age. My mum has bad arthritis and my fingers are also starting to turn. She said that hers started in her 40s. I was born with minor hip dyplasia and late last year went to see a specialist about it and got an MRI and turns out my hip is fine that it must be my FM causing me such pain and discomfort. I went to the pain specialist who looked at my xrays and said that because my hips are not properly formed is why I'm having so much trouble. He also said there's nothing that can be done. It's all very frustrating. I look over weight and unfit on the outside but on the inside I'm always working my butt off trying to look after my young children and do house work and run errins, I feel far from lazy but it's hard to keep up with everyone else when you never get to feel better. I also have problems with my eyes and driving at night time and when it's raining. I recently found online that that's part of FM. How are you coping with your daily life? hope you are doing well today. Keep your chin up :) and take care.

Kind regards,
Shelly Chukka
