Hi I'm new to this forum and am happy to have found it. I have been struggling with a growing list of what I believe to be fibromyalgia, but in at least 8 years of dealing with this I have yet to have a doc identify this is a diagnosis until recently. I have an internist seen for many years, a rheumatologist, a psychiatrist and a Neurology/Sleep Medicine Specialist. The rheumatologist has never mentioned fibromyalgia, he at one point thought that I had poly myalgia rheumatica but later changed diagnosis to restless leg syndrome and attributes aches and pains to my age--59! Needless to say I was not happy when I left there especially since he prescribed a new med and didn't schedule a follow up appointment for 6 months!
My sleep specialist is the first who has actually voiced that he believes I have fibromyalgia and is treating my sleep issues first since this is really impacting my ability to work. He does not think I have restless leg syndrome! I am cautiously optimistic that MAYBE FINALLY I have someone who can diagnose this and help me with effective treatments but it's frightening when even the specialists don't agree! With the way healthcare is going and the physicians.limited time to sit down and discuss diagnosis I would love to hear from you all some of the resources that have been most helpful to you--and have you had this experience when the specialists don't agree?
