Hey all,

Just wanted to take a poll. I wonder what percentage of us have problems with our necks and specifically nerve impingement, diminished space between disks, osteoarthritis in C spine? And if anyone has received any help for this, where it has helped with FM/CFS symptoms? I am wondering if this could be a common issue.

My FM started after/during a pinched nerve lasting 2 months. I think the ongoing pain lead to my FM. ANYWHO, I could go on but what do you think? Could chiropractic help or something else help with neck. 😊

It's weird you post this just now, because right now I've having one of the worst flares ever... it started with my legs, moved to my arms and now my neck/back! It's so bad the back of my head hurts. Sadly I haven't really received any kind of help for this, I guess all they'd give me would be painkillers. Plus I still have to see a lot doctors to take a look at other weird symptoms I've been experiencing in the last 2 years! I can live with neck pain, if it gets bad I just use a topic solution that works well, not perfect, but better than poisoning my body with more meds. That's for sure!

When I first saw a chiropractor about 6 years ago, xrays showed my neck was bent backwards by 9 degrees. I was in stage 1 degeneration, meaning my bones were beginning to decay. had tons of upper back pain, but not so much in my neck. I was shocked. It took about a year of regular adjustments before my neck was back where it was supposed to be. I have continued to go to a chiropractor regularly, both for maintenance and to heal heal my body. I get adjusted for acid reflux and digestive issues, eyesight, brain function, and more. Chiropractic care definitely helps heal organs!

I strongly recommend seeing a chiropractor, because they are the cheapest and by far most effective way to relieve pain all over your body.

Also, a common misconception is that chiropractors are bone doctors. They are actually nerve doctors, as their mission is to free any obstruction to nerves so that the nerves can fully function.

I have neck problems as well, there are herniated and bulging disc's, bone spurs, disc degeneration, and the natural curve of my cervical spine is now straight. I have tons of pain from my neck... I also have issues with my lumbar spine as well. All due to car accidents...

They recently suggested surgery for my cervical spine, but I said no for now, I would like to wait for a few reasons... 1) the one disc that's bulging isn't quite bad enough for surgery yet but is progressive and will need surgery down the road, so I figure why put my body through the trauma of 2 surgeries (1 now and the other when my other disc finally decides it's ready).... I'd rather just have a little patience and wait until my body is completely ready and absolutely needs the help...
And 2) I'm only in my mid 20s, and I'm not ready to have yet another surgery right now.... (I've had many numerous surgeries so center I was a child for random things unrelated to these issues I currently have...)
3) I can't afford to take off of work for several weeks right now to heal... As I have bills to pay (sucks being an adult sometimes! Lol)
And to be honest, with a surgery so serious to consider, I want a second opinion eventually....

my body has been telling me my issues have been getting worse, and it was proved right by MRIs, so I figure, my body will let me know of when it's time to have surgery.... Until then I will have to suck it up and put on my big girl panties and pretend like I'm fine! Lol

As for the chiropractor, I was seeing g one for the past 3 years, I had to stop for a few months due to insurance issues and no fault issues (neither wanted to pay and I couldn't afford to pay out of pocket...) but I plan on going back to see him in the next couple weeks if I can stop procrastinating..... For me, it helps for a few hours, but then I'm right back in to the big ball of pain I was in before I saw him....

I'm pretty sure my body just hates me..... Lol jkjk
:D

A lot of people have it, but usually, if you also experience leg cramps and other pains, you will not get neck pain too.

I will try the topical rub. I tried going on Cymbalta as recommended by my MD for FM. I reluctantly tried this for several months and quit. Why: sexual side effects, weakens bladder muscle, hallucinations (sounds and perripheral shadow), and the cymbalta didn't really touch the flare ups just kind of made me less ? Affected by it. I have been trying an anti inflamitory diet, is a challenge for me to not have some form of dairy once in a while. Over the last couple years my symptoms have changed. I take AOR 5HTP for my serotonin/sanity

I am curious Katy if those MRI's were of your entire spinal cord and brain? I had many MRI's of just partial areas and never where mine was located until I landed in a different hospital with different doctors.

Yes I have.

I've been fortunate that I've never really had ongoing pain issues with my neck. However, I was involved in a car accident a couple years ago and when I was involved in that I did have cervical spine pain and the chiropractor visits did a world of good with helping out in that pain area.

My friend doesn't have it, fortunately.

I too have C spine issues. Years ago a chiro, after x-rays, told me that my curvature in my neck was actually now curving the wrong way. I went after a car accident. Years later, and after a fibro diagnosis, with a specialist directing that I get an x-ray, resulting in an MRI (of neck only), I was diagnosed with severe degenerative disc disease. I am 49, so it is early for it to be at this rate. However, I do know that we all get spine issues (osteoarthritis, DDD, etc) overtime. I think those of us with fibro feel it more.

Hopefully this discovery will bring about more effective solutions for us.....instead of this 'shotgun' approach that is used with all of us.

After reading your post I think it'd be a great idea to see a chiropractor! I had no idea they could help with so many issues! Do you think a chiropractor could help with my GERD? I have GERD caused by a hiatus hernia, to be honest I have no desire to have the surgery done. I'd like to try other alternatives.

What should I look for when picking a chiropractor? I ask because when I was younger my mom took me to a guy who was supposed to be a chiropractor, next day I woke up in a lot pain and a very swollen node on my jaw.

Yes! I get adjusted for GERD each visit, and it helps a lot. It helps my digestion issues too, but it isn't an instant fix. It does take several sessions for healing to happen, like it takes many times going to a gym before you build muscle. The GERD issues can come back, and that just means I need to be adjusted again. And frankly, chiropractic care works better and adjustments last a lot longer if you work out your core muscles that hold your bones in place.

I would look for a chiropractor based on years of experience, reviews, and how busy the clinic is. There are different styles of adjustments. Some chiropractors use machines, others use their bare hands, others use their hands with tools. There are different ways of adjusting with bare hands too. I have a chiropractor in two states. One is very gentle and routine with his adjustments, the other isn't afraid to throw me around like a doll. They are both very effective for me. So it depends on what you like.

So is neck pain disc disease really that painful as the others are saying?

I actually broke my neck in 2003 and had central cord syndrome, (spinal cord trauma /swelling) which paralyzed me from the neck down at first. It slowly subsided, painfully, from feet up, until I had burning and tingling only in my right hand. since then I have had 4 spinal surgeries. I have DDD and osteoarthritis as well. Doctors were telling me that I should'nt have pain because they fixed everything. My former family doc would only give me 20 vicodin 5-500 per month. I was in absolute agony! Nerve pain is torture. it felt like I was being injected with fire. Now I'm a tough old bird , but I would scream out loud sometimes! Then I found my new doc ,who blessed me with neurontin and norco and a fibro diagnosis. Im feeling much better now. He also has me stretching and eating an anti inflamitory diet. Now another thing some of you might want to look into is sjogrens syndrome. my eye doc just tested me for it Sjogrens symptoms are much like fibro but also include dry eyes, mouth (and other places that ladies have). Other symptoms are heartburn, and other gastrointestinal things, also raynauds phenomimon. (cold hands and feet). ss is an autoimmune disorder and can be secondary to other disorders..........Google it!

Yes I have neck pain and also degenerative disk disease along with my fibro and chronic fatigue. I have 2 herniated disks in my lower back. I think they can be related. I started having pain and disk pain before the fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue started. I would say its started about 10-12 years later. I really do think that the pain from my back caused me to be exhausted and this started the chronic fatigue syndrome. I think it's all related and after reading these posts I am sure of it.
